Lightning indicated in the batch of rain passing north of Norfolk, towards NE England...

LOL!laugh.png Gotta laugh really! The stuff heading our way overnight died a death (storm wise), but the stuff heading for the northeast has kept intact over a much bigger fetch of sea!

I suppose I'll be optimistic and say it's not quite too late for us, but this record is getting stuck!

BBC also talking about thundery showers on Sunday in the SE. Another hope to cling to...

Just looked at the isobaric charts on the BBC. Tomorrow looks like we're in a col, probably meaning scattered heavy showers.

Sunday looks like a very unsettled day. Widespread heavy showers, even prolonged rain.

Both above would have a thunder risk.

I wouldn't even write off today yet, even if the risk looks low now.

Yes, we have a T Storm risk for Sunday but it is low. Ah well, onwards and upwards and all that. One day we'll get our storm. By the way, what's a 'col'?

A zone between 2 high pressures, opposite each other and two lows. Obviously light winds and typical summer weather associated with them is scattered showers.

Ah, right. I'll study the maps and all that so it sinks in. I like to know these things. :)

Well it did rain overnight but thankfully not anywhere near as much here as some models were projecting. Now just the next three days of crazy Summer weather to get through!

IMO this was a bit of an over hyped event the rain has moved through the uk quite quckily :/

I don't think it's anywhere near done with the UK yet. Obviously we shouldn't suffer here tho.smile.png

Moderate rain here at the moment.

Going somewhere nice then afterwards?

Well, that was a disappointment. Moderate drizzle here in west Cambs at the moment. Not a sniff of a bit of thunder or lightning overnight. I can't believe I haven't had a decent thunderstorm this summer yet with all the rain we've had.

Worst of it is through here, although the really heavy stuff hugged the coast and has swung inland over the NE (as usual). Looks like the rain leaving Norfolk is intensifying in a narrow band.

Rain pretty much stopped here. Not really much to shout about to be honest, seen far worse here!

Nothing of interest here last night/today, about 14mm of rain so far, maybe a few more mm to come, but nothing as extreme as forecast here.

Yes, lightning has recently been indicated in that band. I definitely wouldn't write off today yet, especially in the south eastern parts of the region and particularly if there's sunshine.

No model has picked up that stuff in the channel so will do a quick report on it....It has now produced some lightning...This more near the Devon coast

If the surface winds are correct on the models (LOL) then that stuff will begin to push north and then follow suit in terms of going west with the main rainband...Coast..What are the conditions looking in terms of aiding thunderstorms?

Brighton needs to hold tight!!!!

I tried to log on from work an hour ago and our filter said this thread was blocked to me as it had been categorised as 'violence'

I can get back on now though, so wonder what I have missed? Was there a fight and, if so, who won?

I would have understood the filter had it been the model thread I was trying to access.......
