Polar sea Ice doing well, still playing catch up with other years, 2003 snow looking closest to the current map

It really is remarkable the difference in sea ice in october from the year 2000 onwards,remarkable.

Very noticeably big reductions over the years but Its just about the same as 2007 now, will be interesting how long it can keep up the large increases. Edited October 17, 2012 by harshwintercoming

That's quite an upward trajectory over the last couple of weeks; let's hope the 'angle of attack' continues towards the 2000 average. Snowfall looking fairly healthy as well so all in all things are looking positive (still like to see some more pixels in Scandi though!)

Yes Monday ............... then +24hrs .............. ..then +24hrs is two days (48hrs) after the first snow/ice cover chart. Its looking good

Weather conditions were a low visibility windy snow mist.

Thanks for that. I thought I'd have a peek at the Barrow cam last night and it looked like a complete white out! How do you post a camera pic that won't change on update?

I would assume the ice increase shown is due to an ice > water mix of more than a certain %. Surely an area of this size can't have gone from liquid water to solid ice within a two day period?

Hover your screen cursor over web cam image, Rt click on mouse choosing save image in the option screen

and then upload the saved image file as an attach file option in this webpage.

A lot of that ice will be near the 15 percent concentration of ice to water were the measurements begin to be recorded up to one hundred percent and one of the concerns to some people is that will stay too thin but it looking good just making a fight back from the tiny minimum it got to.
