really started to wind up here the last half hour,32 mph gust a few mins ago.

Had a big gust out of no where around 5:45pm it was recorded as a 50mph gust. As Liam J has said Malin Head in Northern Ireland has reported a 58mph gust. Other area's at the moment showing high gusts are Capel Curig in Wales with 46mph gusts and the Western Isles of Scotland touching 50mph gusts. The weather station at Cairngorm has reported 68mph so far.

trees take a good beating here now,no leaf fall as such,so a good chance of some limbs off over the next 24hrs.

Ramping up a bit more now, 50-55mph widely over the Western Isles and again Northern Ireland up to 55mph @ Malin Head. Gusts here around 40mph now, the trees starting to take a pounding and leaves are swirling round, very autumnal feel.... Loving it

Very windy here now, gusts nearly touching 50mph - Long time since the wind was howling round the house like this. Bet it's unpleasant on some of the north - south routes tonight, M6 & A1 in particular.

The wind has eased off slightly over western parts of the UK but they will experience a second wave of more windy weather tonight. Currently Northern Scotland is experiencing gusts of 56mph and the central belt of Scotland around 35 to 45mph.

Recovery trucks still clearing up the mess on the A82 on Rannoch Moor just now, overturned HGV's both on the road and off it! Gusts to 82mph recorded at the base of the ski area at 1200ft, just above the summit of the A82 over the moor (which is more open and would have been more exposed given the wind direction earlier, the base of the ski area has a degree of shelter behind the bulk of Meall a' Bhuiridh).

There were two pretty shaken up motorcyclists and one pretty sorry looking bike after they got blown clean off the half mile access road to the ski area base as they sought some shelter between about half five and six pm.

The wind across Western parts has started to pick up again with a top gust of 50mph in the Western isles in the past hour.

K5 Buoy is reporting a average wind speed of 47mph at the moment I would imagine gusts will be in the 60 to 70mph range there.

Very windy here this morning and over many other northern and western areas of the UK, strong westerly winds gusting around the 50mph mark. Recent gust here 51mph, the front of the house takes a pounding in westerly winds and the front door whistles away lol. Feeling very cool with some pretty heavy showers being blown along.

Still pretty stormy here, I'm at work on the northern edge of Derwentwater near Keswick. Really whipping up over the open water with white tops racing along at a fair old rate. Very strong westetly winds giving 40-50mph gusts making it very difficult to walk down onto the Foreshore.

Checked the Met Office site to get the official highest gusts from them.

Highlands of Scotland - 76mph Glen Ogle.

Northern Scotland - 70mph Shetland Lerwick.

Southern Scotland - 60mph Drumalbin.

Northern Ireland - 58mph Malin Head.

Western Scotland - 56mph South Uist.

Northern England - 51mph St. Bees Head.

Looks like the worst of the winds could go through SE England into the North Sea, across the North of Scotland and down towards Northern Ireland. I expect problems with ferry services firstly across the English Channel, then across the North Sea and also the Irish Sea.

Mean windspeeds around 25mph in most areas, with gusts upto 50mph in most areas. The worst affected areas could see gusts upto 70mph.

The Upper atmosphere winds also strong.

A lot of rain could fall in any given locations over a 48 hour period. The South West & Wales look to bear the brunt currently, but Scotland could also see plenty of rain as the front slows when it gets here.

At this stage in time, confidence is now quite high regarding a spell of wet & windy weather hitting our shores on Sunday lasting roughly 48 hours, however a lot of uncertainty regarding the intensity of the winds/rain and the worst affect locations.

Something at least providing us with a little interest, and something that needs a close eye kept on developments.

Still a few different scenarios being played out, so hopefully we'll be in a better position over the next 24 hours and be able to forecast the most likely track and intensity of Nadia's love child....

You can see the "gap" in Jet here where the depresssion enters from the Azores, travels up through the Bay of Biscay, gets absorbed by the southerly tracking Jet Stream, which then send it up the Eastern Side of the UK, into the north sea before sendind it back out west a bit for it to eventually sit over Ireland, held there by the Jet until it slowly decays over the rest of the week.

I remember another bestie from the bay of biscay *cough* 1987.

It has a history of throwing very unpredictable lows at us.

Differences between the models at 72 hours and 96 hours,

So lets take a look at what the GFS says,

Sunday evening looks windy for most of England mainly Northern parts though with winds being 30 to 40mph.

Monday morning looks windy across Eastern parts mainly for Eastern Scotland and in the English Channel where winds look to be 35 to 45mph. Rain during this time looks heavy over Northern Wales and parts of Southern Scotland,

On Monday evening and into the night the wind gets stronger over Northern and Western Scotland, wind speeds being 50 to 60mph, gusts over 70mph would be likely. As for the rain it stays heavy mainly over Southern Scotland but gradually eases off.

With the models not fully agreeing on this complicated set up we cannot be sure yet on the exact details as the UKMO clearly shows if things go its way then not much will happen.
