Cold and miserable day out there but hasn't been as bad as some said it would be from local forecasts etc. 10.4mm today so far and its just drizzly at the moment. Winds haven't even been that strong either - max gust of 12.4mph.

Tomorrow's rush hour looks a bit more messy though for some...lovely timing if it does whats forecast.

They've named it Karin?

Some firm did but it's not an name the Met Office would use.

Been watching with interest. Why is it so dry here. Or is that slightly damp?

The rain started here at approx 1pm and hasn't stopped since, but nothing out of the ordinary considering all we have had this summer, and I use that word VERY loosely lol! The car thermometer read 10C 20 minutes ago. Not particularly windy, just like an average summers day in this neck of the woods :D

The two areas to watch in my opinion, courtesy of the NW European radar are encircled in red as they slowly drift NNE'wards.

In terms of what most have already had, it might seem a bit of a letdown but the fun and games are yet come, believe me! good.gif

I'm currently in the drier slot in between the fronts and have received only 7.6mm but that will change.

total of 24mm of rain here today, is now just drizzly autumnal-like weather with the occasional blow of wind (not enough to call it a "gust" lol). No sferics seen or heard (boohoo cray.gif )

Well it is meant to just rapidly develop later on and most of the warnings are for the spell which develops later on.

It's not just tonight and tomorrow either:

Flood alerts as Met Office warn of week of wet weather

Britain will be battered by autumn storms this week with downpours expected to cause floods and disruption on the roads.

The severe weather began in the south west, midlands, north east and south east, with up to 80mm, falling over the weekend in these areas. Severe weather warnings were issued for much of the country due to the risk of floods and falling trees from strong winds as low pressure moved in from the Atlantic. "Significant disruption, including disruption to travel and flooding of properties and communities, is possible. Strong winds will increase the risk of flooding as wind-blown debris has the potential to block watercourses and drains," said an Environment Agency spokesman.

The rains spread over the whole of the UK overnight before clearing in the south for the beginning of the week. The south will enjoy some sunshine for a day at the beginning of the week and temperatures up to 18C (64F). However heavy showers will remain in the north with gales of up to 70mph expected in north east Scotland. From Wednesday the rain will return to the south again with more heavy downpours.

The Met Office warned of transport problems from strong winds and rain. Such high winds can uproot trees, blow vehicles sideways, close bridges and buffet ferries. Temperatures will remain between 15C (59F) and 18C (64F) in the south and 12C (54F) to 15C (59F) in the north. The first frosts of the year are also expected. Already nighttime temperatures in Scotland have gone below freezing and grass frosts are expected in the south. The unsettled weekend will remain across the country into next weekend when it is expected to clear up in the south, although stormy weather will remain in the north.

Met Office forecaster George Goodfellow said the rain is the first of the autumn storms. October is expected to be unsettled across much of the UK although there may be some drier, brighter periods in the south. “This is the first proper autumnal storm and will be a shock to the system for some after a reasonably-settled September. “There’s the potential for heavy rain and wind gusts up to 70mph as a maximum in the North-East, and 50-60mph for most exposed parts.â€

The Environment Agency has also put dozens of areas under medium flood risk for the next two days, mostly in the south west and northern England.

David Jordan, Director of Operations at the Environment Agency, advised people at risk to put down sandbags where necessary and prepare for evacuation. “We strongly urge people to sign up to flood warnings, keep a close eye on local weather forecasts and be prepared for the possibility of flooding. We also ask that people stay safe, by staying away swollen rivers and not attempting to drive through floodwater. "The Environment Agency already has teams out on the ground checking on flood defences and clearing any blockages in order to reduce the risk of flooding as much as possible.

There's a ton of stuff coming up from Brest/BoB - tonight is going to be fun, it's exactly why the MO have Amber warnings down south.

Judging by those charts, I still don't see the wind as an issue, except for some prone locations. drinks.gif If the charts are correct, I also don't see why Gales should be blurted about, on the TV forecasts. My maximum gust will probably be in the region of 25-30mph if I was to guess. rofl.gif

Mind you, the flooding and prolonged nature of the rain will be enough to deal with, for some.

The NAE hasn't quite got as high totals has previous runs have had, but some very wet weather still possible in the Midlands & North tomorrow.

Looks like the Midlands & Northern areas could face the worst rainfall based on this run. The South East & South West not fairing that badly.
