Out of those photos...you can easily see which ones are the 2012 ones. Compare them with the 2009,2010 ones and then you see why there was so much disappointment last winter.

Whatever we want this winter doesnt even amount to what those people in america are going through. Just puts everything into perspective. Who really cares what happens it doesnt really matter. Just thankful our tiny little ireland doesnt have to go through things like there going through right now. Lets just enjoy our winter and if it does turn out rubbish then i guess to be honest its fine. At least in the uk we are safe from storms like there seeing.

"The Met Office’s long-term forecast suggests that, like two years ago, high-pressure systems will cut off mild Atlantic air, sending temperatures plunging as Arctic air moves in.

More snow could fall than last winter, which was much drier than average in England, leading to weeks of transport chaos, it adds."

the met office said that???

As interesting as that article is I cannot believe the metoffice would stick their necks out like that, it doesn't seem like them to be honest.

Haha what they have done there is looked at their GloSea4 model and gone "ooh I think this means a higher than normal chance of a cold winter", combined with their advice to Contingency planners, multiplied by a huge amount of hype = snowmeggedon.

And notice the use of the word "suggests", clearly someone has viewed that model and told them about it.

I'm surprised though, no-where in this article is Piers Corbyn or James Madden mentioned? What's gone wrong with the DE these days?

Far less snow in the 2012 events then the others. Thought those photos showed that rather well.

CFS an absolute rasper, stonking battleground setup followed by belter of an Easterly, going to post a good few charts from this, mostly just for fun at this stage but they have been showing on and off for a long time now (and mostly on lately).
