Quite amazing weather today then - and lots to look forward to aswell

never heard of this before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Five people have been taken to hospital after a car was flipped over by strong winds in Pembrokeshire.

The stationary car was thrown against the front of a branch of Barclays bank on Hamilton Terrace, Milford Haven, just before midday, Dyfed-Powys Police said.

The people in the Peugeot 206 were taken to hospital but are not thought to have been seriously hurt.

Odd way to rob a bank! lol

Yes it was rough here today! I work on a gas terminal on the Haven waterway, and am based within a portakabin "village", I have never persoanlly experienced anything like today with the wind so strong on site, they cancelled all work and all non essential staff were ordered to stay in doors for nearly 3 hours due to the high winds. The roller shutter door on our firestation was ripped apart and looks like a curtain blowing in the wind. Amazing. My office on the first floor is on a corner and the walls were literally bowing in.

Unfortuently my own home station is currently quite sheltered so didnt catch the worst (read best), but even I registered 38mph gust.

Not much rain here today and not that windy either. Considering the BBC had a great huge green blob passing over this area I expected a biblical downpour but we've had less than 5mm all day.

few more encouraging Joe B tweets folks

Just like Nov 2010, heavy rains preceded the turn to colder over Nw Europe... Rains into UK now

Is the UK and NW europe ready for a start to the winter season that will rival 2010. We will find out soon enough

Santa also wanted me to let you know that n hemisphere snowcover is above normal and that the sled will be used more than normal this year

Blimey, we've got hail stones now!

woody

What an interesting day of weather and radar watching! Tonight is much calmer and colder, but showers look possible.

It has been a very interesting day!

Places have flooded by me...which have never flooded before. Stay safe and dry everyone. Lovely to watch it from a warm, dry house.

GFS 18z - AMAZING - DEC 2010 all over again - 4x4s, snow shovels, food stocked up, grit, at the ready folks - this is gonna be brutal!

edit:- 100 vehicle pile up in the USA in FOG - Texas

from the model thread - more confirmation really that this blocking is gonna last possibly right up to xmas and maybe beyond

Latest update of the ECM 32 day control:

Big change from the previous update, this time rather than signalling raging zonality, it builds in a big scandinavian HP at around +400 mark to repel any attempt from the atlantic to get back in, LP from the atlantic undercuts the block and i'll leave you to guess what that leads too -

LOTS OF SNOW IN WALES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the remainder of the run its much the same, blocking transferring between our NW and NE, repeated undercutting scenarios (including one showing on xmas eve) and generally cold

I admire your enthusiasm but calm down Andy, it hasn't happened yet. smile.pngsmile.png

Also, if we get an easterly or north easterly flow then most of Wales won't see huge amounts of snow (East Wales being a little better off). However, it will be cold and, if we get a channel low (once some suitably cold air is established), then we may be in business. smile.png

Having said all that, you are in one of the best locations in Wales for snow. :)

Of course it there is a front pushing in from the south, meeting the colder air further north, then these situations can be very snowy.

If only these were being modelled at the moment. rofl.gif

However still a long way off.

From the model thread:

Well the 06z throws up a 72 snowstorm for wales in FI at 204

A line which I'm sure is enough to give Andy a complete breakdown!

Excellent article on the severe mid Wales floods last June, by John Mason of Machynlleth (topical given the Snowdonia floods presently):

What's a 72 snow storm?

I'm guessing Steve Murr meant to say "a 72 hour snowstorm".

I know that December 3rd is still a little early in the season for this kind of event, but the chart runs have been quite consistent lately as I'm sure we all know.
