Good morning everyone

Very cold last night brrrrr

Well what a great set of runs we have been dealt at the moment

One thing I will say regarding last nights ECM is and I'm not moaning is do we really want it that extreme

Probably showing my age now lol but it will soon be Xmas and I am not fortunate enough to get sick pay where I work and certainly would not get paid for snow days so the thought of anything like the ECM scares the crap out of me

I love snow and would be happy with cold and a nice say 10 cm on the floor

Enough to look nice and enjoy with your family

And still work and get around

I would love 10 foot snow drifts if this country could handle it but it simply can't everything would stop

Any way enough of my moaning and sorry if its downbeat

Bring on the snow lol

Over night low of -4.7c , currently -3.5c in darmouth park in north London. Hoping the east-side story comes to truth.

I see RAF Benson in Oxfordhire got down to -7.2C around 5am cold.gif

It's going to be fascinating, to me, over the next couple of weeks to see how things pan out. High pressure over Scandinavia, looking like becoming more established with time over Greenland... Whether its location means we get frequent snowy spells, or if it ends up being too far north and we keep getting snow turning to rain, or just plain cold rain etc. Like I say, exciting times ahead.smile.png

Of course I'll admit to being a snow and cold weather lover, but I'll try and remain objective today about any chances of snow overnight tonight. Please remember I'm not a weather expert in any way, just a serial hoarder of links and charts and go with hunches as much as science!!! unsure.png

Here's one that's an update of yesterday, if it came off, it would make a few folk here very happy (and some very unhappy during rush hour!!)

It's less of an area now, but a bit further South

Is this part of the ingredients we need to make wet stuff into powdery stuff?

Well here's the wet stuff, a lot of it!

Yes, I'd noticed that too, but cheers for posting.

I'll be keeping a keen eye on the NMM model today too. It may mean me setting off for work very early again tomorrow...

totally with you there coast - I just love the pictures acute.gif

there's plenty of chat about a potential easterly beasterly in la la land in the model thread but in the immediate time frame (I hate that phrase) there's interesting weather coming up for later today and also round the 10th Dec - just depends on the position of the lows as they brush over/near our little island - will it be snow or rain - maybe a nice surprize like the other day ?

Nowhere near as good a run on ECM 00z, as yesterday's 12z showed, but still lots of potential next week, although the 'pear shaped' factor looks increased markedly to me.

We can only wait an see, but I'm cautiously optimistic, like I have been for a while.

Thanks Steve.

I think I would prefer to be gradually upgraded daily, rather than have the epic runs of yesterday, and then have them downgraded daily. Oh well, it's only weather, lol.

Yes, still fine regarding next week's cold spell! biggrin.png

Phew! Thanks Ben. I will have a peek in there later when the dust has settled. :D

If I can make it from the front door to the car without falling over it will be a miracle, the path and untreated road here look pretty lethal and then there is the problem that I can't reach the middle part of the windscreen !

You'll have to climb up onto the bonnet then Angel. :D

Morning All-

Hoping for front & back edge snow today & into tomorrow morning with maybe a dusting.

Morning Steve,

I've just had a look at the Extra NMM charts and they don't make for such a good scenario at this point?

But look at the rate at which any precip falls!! especially over Kent in the early hours:

Mornin each. Cold and frosty here this morning and we had a flurry of snow last night. Sun is out now but sky is a pearly-grey hue.

Anyone want a peek at this........?

Rubbish charts this morning compared to last night, winds are much slacker in the models and here i was expecting the beast from the east this could turn into a tiny kitten sad.png

Models are downgraded, but didn't we expect this? Still room for more upgrades through the day. Yesterdays charts were so unreal, the only way was down I'm afraid from being so high.

Still snowy charts for next week, still very cold also. A slack stagnant flow can bring longer spells of snow, although I do believe once this unfolds itself in terms of just what this cold spell will produce, the winds will be of note to bring us what we want and of course a biting wind chill.

We must, must remember, how many weeks are we into winter? Unbelievable really.

The red bit above is all folks need to take heed of, in reality.acute.gif Maybe a one or two run downgrade in terms of entrenched cold, hwoever, to my mind, that is irrelevant, considering the timescale we are talking about.

Not getting at goonergreg here but may folks interpret the charts in many different ways and I repeat, the red highlighted section is all folks need to note.

I'll be awaiting the reliable GFS 12z as it unrolls for confirmation of the continuing trend. drinks.gif
