A chilly start to the day in Kemnay this morning. A nice covering of frost on the car, but the nice easy stuff to scrape thankfully, not the nasty frozen on ice. There's still snow on the ground where it's been deepest and/or shaded and and thick ice too. In fact the ice on the local park was lethal this morning, both on the paths and in the grass, and seems to have gained a huge degree of slippiness since yesterday.

Bennachie looked magnificent in the sun this morning. Bright white and it may just be my imagination but it looks like it may have gained a fresh coat of snow yesterday at some point. It'll be a pity if the predicted mild, rainy weekend washes it all away.

My coldest night of the winter so far at -5.8c/-7.2c and I've still kept some patches of snow from last Sunday. Temperatures should take a tumble in some parts from early afternoon given the low maximums today.

What are the coos doing??? The way the 5-day forecasts are dancing a can-can't in a chorus-line, I'll take any reliable forecast I can get! :)

MetO long term update IMBYish for Kiltland

UK Outlook for Wednesday 26 Dec 2012 to Wednesday 9 Jan 2013:

Mid-December's rather changeable weather conditions are thought likely to persist through the last few days of December with low pressure expected to be dominant near the British Isles. The north of the UK is most likely to see colder-than-average conditions in late December and perhaps early January, with relatively typical amounts of rainfall. During the same period, temperatures over the south are likely to be closer to average whilst rainfall amounts may be a little above average. Uncertainty then increases significantly into the final week of the period, with no clear weather type favoured, perhaps indicating less unsettled conditions.

Wednesday weather for Scotland, starting off cloudy but dry becoming clear and sunny in the Highlands and Eastern parts later in the afternoon. Later in the evening becoming more cloudy but staying clear in the Highlands and Eastern parts, overnight into Thursday some heavy rain moving in over Western areas. Wind calm all day but getting breezy later in the West. Temperatures still to remain very cold.

Very cold here last night got down to 1c coldest yet so far this winter. Today has been sunny spells with a Easterly wind and still cold at 4c.

Certainly the coldest day of the year here and at Glasgow airport where the minima of -8C and maxima of 0C. Another superb crisp winter's day with fantastic wintry scenes and colours. Temperature already plummiting at Glasgow airport so it will be interesting to see how low it goes - certainly December 2012 has been very good so far.

Yeah it caught a few of the snow showers yesterday! - there was a fleeting one reached Kemnay about 1pm, but there were many hanging over Mither Tap most of the morning ;) nice and white, tho' slippy!

Very cold, calm but sunny today with a maximum temperature of -0.2c so an ice day. Great weather to be pruning overhanging branches at the edge of the fields. No updates from the cow models but safe to say they are not refusing any food we put in front of them on a cold day like today.

It was a nippy -4.7 at 6.30 this morning and the temp rose to the dizzying heights of 0.6 during the day. Currently -2.7. Took 15 minutes to defrost the car this morning. I'll have to get up even earlier than usual tomorrow to start scraping the windscreens.

NMM brings in some snow showers tomorrow morning across the southwest and pushes them up into the central belt, which continues through the day. Not sure how likely this is but it has shown up on previous runs so it's certainly something to watch over the next 24 hours. Also the northeast may see a few snow showers in the southeasterly flow that develops ahead of the front on Thursday/ As for the main frontal snow, that has been at least delayed until Thursday evening into Friday morning:

No sign of a breakdown at that point:
