unfortunately (fortunately) im in a very dry part of the lake district in comparison to the wetter parts at least

i live down the road from a met office rain gauge which i managed to get data for going back to 1978, so use this for historical comparisons.

Annual Total is for 2012 is 1331,0mm

wettest on record was 2000 with 1280mm

Annual average is 1063mm

138.0 mm in November here, 111% of the 1981-2020 average. This takes the annual total to 1181.3 mm which is above average but a long way short of the record of 1376.9mm in 2000.

My weather station is only a cheapy £60 one so there is a chance of some errors but this is what I have so far?

January: 32.4mm

February: 23.4mm

March: 21.9mm

April: 90mm

May: 33.2mm

June: 112.5mm

July: 76.9mm

August: 28.3mm

September: 30mm

October: 95.1mm

November: 104mm

December:

Total for 2012: 647.7mm

Which is 2.3mm off of the average anual rainfall for london! Still got a month to go though obviously and so definately a wetter than average year (No suprise there ;) )

Wiki- "Parts of England are surprisingly dry, which is contrary to the stereotypical view—London receives just below 650 millimetres (25.6 in) per annum,[30] which is less than Rome, Sydney or New York City"

Passed the old record today reaching 1068mm passing the record set in 2000 of 1065.8mm. If December is average it's going to pass it by quite a margin.

Yesterday's rain takes the annual total here to 1249.8mm and makes 2012 the 4th wettest year in the last 35 years.

Only 4.4 mm required to beat 2008 which is currently the 3rd wettest but a whopping 91.8 mm needed to surpass the 2nd wettest in 2002.

Looking like another month that's going to hit 100mm plus if the forecast is right. That will be six times this year and one close miss. Amazing when you consider at the beginning of the year they were talking of stand pipes due to a continuing drought. The previous record is well truly smashed.

Passed the 100mm mark early this morning. We've now got around 1170mm for the year and plenty to come yet looking at the models. We won't beat the wettest December on record which is 214.5mm set in 1978 though.

What did you get in December 1965, Pit?

I recorded 236.4mm at a lower, and drier site, about 9 miles from where I am now. There was 53.3 mm on the 9th with serious flooding in the local towns of Ashbourne and Matlock.

This December is the wettest since 2007 so far 65mm has fallen up to yesterday

The highest in recent years was 2007 when 56mm fell

The Driest December was in 2010 when just 20mm fell but that was also the coldest and snowiest for decades

Comfortably over 1300 mm here but it will still take a very wet spell indeed to beat 2000 which recorded 1376.9 mm, the wettest year on my records.

I would say it is possible TM with 9 days remaining and a very unsettled outlook.

Not expecting to reach my wettest of 1553mm in 2008 though, 6 inches in 9 days is almost impossible!

You could be right, Tony. I can't remember what my exact total is, and I'm at work so can't look, I think around 1320mm not counting what's fallen since 0900. That would leave around 57 mm in the next nine days; Possible but not probable I'd say as the three days from Christmas Eve until Boxing Day, at the moment don't look like adding much here unless the shallow low moving across southern England early on Monday moves further north, so it's down to what happens from Thursday onwards.

189.2 mm little chance of getting near that unless that heavy rain over Wales pays us a visit.
