It's shrunk in the rain.

Hmm I was wondering why my rain gauge has been showing much less rain than the radar and observations have suggested over the past few days, seems it's cracked and leaking. Correcting for that - total for year now 1,890mm and month 145mm so far so maybe we will make 2 meters.

Quite a few places, especially in the Midlands and East will have doubled their 2011 totals this year This is the case at both Coventry and Rugby where this year is well into the 800's mm while last year was in the low 400's mm.

Meanwhile the rain keeps coming here, currently on 37mm since midnight, 'only' 5 inches more now needed to be the wettest year!

The December total now stands at 156.8 mm, just 1mm required to put this month into the top 30 wettest months in the last 35 years.

The annual total is 1338.1 mm. 3.5 mm required to make it the second wettest year on record and 38.8mm to make it the wettest.

Even the latter is now looking achievable.

Locally over 1100mm, and Mumbles over 1175mm, so over 1200mm now probable. with 142mm over past 10 days, that's more than January, February and March this year combined.

Across Wales as a whole to the end of November, when comparing year to date to previous years to date it was 12th wettest in a series going back 100 years. Clearly after this December a top 10 finish is guaranteed and quite possibly it will finish as one of the top 5 wettest years across Wales as a whole. For it to be the wettest year on record, it would need over 400mm across Wales in December and while over 200mm is possible on average, 400mm seems unlikely, although you can never rule anything out.

50.4mm so far, slightly below average.

802mm year to date, above average. 2007 was wetter, though.

Up to 122.9mm for December 135% of average I wouldn't be surprised if we hit 150 plus for the month. For the year 1185.5mm. We're going to zoom past 1200mm and considering our previous record was 1065.8mm that's one big jump.

December so far 208.4 mm.

Just another 27.0 mm to beat the wettest year (2000) since daily recording started here in1968.

22.0 mm required here to beat the 2000 record of 1376.9 mm but I reckon you've a much greater chance of achieving it than I have, Rainy.

The NMM accumulated precipitaion forecast gives only about 13 mm here by midday Saturday but more than twice that in your area. I think it will all be down to Monday as to whether or not the record goes here.

Meanwhile, Met Office figures suggest 2012 is set to be one of the wettest years since records began in 1910.

It said just 46mm of rain was needed to fall before 31 December to make this year the wettest on record for the UK overall, with 1,291.2mm recorded between 1 January and 26 December.

A new record has already been set for England with 1,095.8mm falling in the year up to Boxing Day.

Now 23.1 mm wanted. As you suggest TM it looks like we should get there.

I collect at 9am GMT as required by the Met O. So some of Jan 1st goes in the 2012 pot. The last drop might be needed.

Earlier in Dec, in the mini dry spell 9th -- 13th, I was doubtful about beating 2000 record. The break through came on Dec 22nd with 34.1 mm.

Another 6.8 mm this morning so just 15.2 mm needed now to break the 2000 record; the cold front on Saturday morning might just do it if it moves through slowly.

4.1 mm needed for December to beat 2002 and become the wettest since 1993. It would take an exceptional deluge for the 1993 record of 231.7 mm to be under threat.

Well TM according to the lunchtime forecast 25mm is possible tomorrow so you should pass the 2000 record. Our December record is unlikely to be broken unless we get around 80mm of rain.

The wettest year on record is already in the bank and unlikely to be beaten for sometime mainly because it's such a huge jump in the final figure.

Look certain to break the 2 meter barrier now with just 10mm more needed with up to 75-100mm forecast here for the last 3 days of the month. We're not going to break the record but one soggy year that's for sure, all the more remarkable really considering the very dry first 3 months of the year. The last 9 months may well be close to record breaking.

Going into April we only had 295mm rain and were heading into driest months of the year.

93mm here for December, so it's going to be touch and go to see whether i manage to get to 100mm or so in the next few days.It all depends how much rain gets past the pennines.

2 metre barrier. There's an interesting thought. Here currently 1924.4 mm.

Can the last 3 days really be that wet?

That's a challenge too big for here I think.

I think there's a chance, the Met Office and models are forecasting up to 75-100mm around your place too (hills of Wales and NW England).

NMM accumulations to teatime Sunday (more to come after that too)
