Yes that is very rare to Issue a Red Warning the day before the event, they must have new data and are very confident how this will play out now!

Never seen a Red the day before ever!

Edit: Yes I have actually, it was the Cumbria Floods a few years back and they nailed that one spot on a good 3 days beforehand!

First off, please be aware that warnings will come and go over the coming 24 hours, local geography and scenerios will change things regular. acute.gif

Secondly, the south east will receive snow - without question and most likely some areas bad as always happens. However don't concentrate all your efforts on what we already know is going to happen. Look at what is happening afterward, and the trend shows more snow and an unsettled cold spell of showers for the south east for a number of days into next week, and moving on from that the long range is looking for a pro-longed cold spell, which means that the snow if it falls heavy initially on this first front could be with us for a period of time being topped up regular, particular for Kent, Essex and Anglia. rofl.gif

Hope that helps.

It will move over as the day tomorrow goes on, they wont move it yet as they can not be sure how much will be in the clouds left when it hits south east. If they are still heavy clouds they will move than amber!

As some are now saying tomorrow into Saturday seems a good possibility for most in here now, but this looks like it could reload and bring more through the week. 12Z GFS will lead us into a new conversation later I reckon but look what the 06z had anyway!

Am I allowed a few shackles on:

Complete non event for Kent

Please

(But not please if you see what I mean sad.png )

Damn phone may have posted this 5 times!!

It is possible that it coudl be less for Kent, but it is highly unlikely as all the evidence shows that it will be gaining moisture as well enroute, so I doubt this would happen, good point though, and it is always best to edge on the base of caution, but alas I think this time they are spot on expect between 7 to 14cm in general in Kent but you in Medway will get more due to your geography.

The red warning must be due to the blizzard conditions expected. What speed does the wind have to be to be considered a blizzard?

From Wikipedia:

To be a blizzard, a snow storm must have sustained winds or frequent gusts that are greater than or equal to 56 km/h (35 mph) with blowing or drifting snow which reduces visibility to 400 meters or a quarter mile or less and must last for a prolonged period of time — typically three hours or more
