Was up in Windermere visiting at the weekend - Langdale looked good and Grasmere was like Narnia on Tuesday looking at the webcams - I think Lakeland does very well indeed - thankfully.... smile.png

Well of course at higher levels there is plenty of snow - the Lakes tends to get minimal amounts of snow, as in a cm or two, and this is what it will get in next 48 hours if lucky whilst many other parts get much much more.

In the late 2010 event, I was in Lakeland and we got a couple of inches of snowfall I was happy but when I found out back home in Grr Manc there was 8 inches in one of the greatest falls for many years I was gutted.

So in summary, yes the Lakes, Cumbria etc may get some snow but it will be nowhere near the amount everyone else gets.

Because we have Diane Oxberry in our region.

We need to send her to Bristol and transfer Ian Ferguson in.

Looks slow and heavy ppn over the Wirral....

There might be a queue!

Chimney at the end of Striding is interesting in these conditions.

Down Swirral - safer - unless you have a binbag - but not recommended....

(Don't try it)

Ian

Aye, I've had a few lucky escapes on striding edge in the past, not to be recommended in a force 8 gale and heavy snow.

After this morning disappointment we now have a straw to clutch, who knows if the 12z has it right?

A covering has gone up to 75%, the same as Monday up to 40%

Here is the accumulated precipitaion from NMM. Strong signal for Manchester and north Cheshire to suffer from a rain shaddow effect

That is exactly what I was referring to earlier. I never realised this.. But a SE'ly flow with a front moving in from the west quite often means Manchester stays totally dry.

If that chart does end up being accurate, that really is an "FML" moment for us Mancunians.

Dear oh dear. Couldn't make it up. Look at the size of the blob!

I would expect Manchester still to see snow just not that much, maybe a couple of cm.

Light to moderate fall of fine snow/graupul here now. It suggests instability in the air ahead of the main front forecast tomorrow. Any advance falls can only be good for those areas getting snow tomorrow - even less chance of it melting as it hits the ground. A fair chilly breeze out there too now.

I realise there is always scope for disappointment in this region but I am still confident of a reasonable event for most of the NW region tomorrow. If it doesn't come off then so what! It's hardly the end of the world.
