Well done to the NAE for picking up the current PPN over many parts of the region 48 hours ago, when the other models were having none of it, and Ian F stated that they thought the NAE was wrong with PPN for today.

The current band is caused by the instability where the two competing air masses (warm to the W and cold to the E) are starting to mix together as the warm air tries to push into the cold air - this was mentioned on the NetWeather forecast yesterday i think

How can NewWeather forecast this yet BBC cant?

Here is the accumulated precipitaion from NMM. Strong signal for Manchester and north Cheshire to suffer from a rain shaddow effect

What's that? How did you come to that conclusion?

There could be a million answers to that but IMO - netweather is a commercial organisation that gets paid to get it right and the BBC is an entertainment organisation who's remit is to give the 95% of the nation that don't want disruptive snow a warm fuzzy feeling!!

OK everyone - this is not scientific but emotionallly based. Expect 18z to totally wipe away any hope the 12z put before us, then if it underlines it or even upgrades it the sweeter it will feel. I can't be doing with a repeat of today.

Yes - not a sausage in Keswick the snowline was high (ish) on Skiddaw - Grasmere looked unbelievable.....

South Lakes did quite well from Sundays snowfall, not much over this side, melted by the next day. Even the hills don't seem to have much.

The deepest snow I've ever seen was when I was out hiking near Glenridding in March a few years ago, there was nothing at sea level but it was thigh deep above 500m! I've noticed Grasmere still has lying snow, so I'll head down there on Saturday if Keswick is still snowless.

Are you thinking March 2010? The mountains had so much snow that winter, would love to see those alpine conditions again this year!
