Very fine snow in Macclesfield - it's been drifting in the air for the past half hour. I just refreshed the BBC weather website and they have gone from no snow at all here, to light snow tomorrow evening.

Moderate snowfall here now, very dry icy snow however which is blowing around everywhere and tending to settle in corners as a result. If wet snow follows and sticks on top of it then it is going to cause some serious travel problems as that is like a rug on a polished floor, it also cuts your eyes to shreds when walking outside as I just found out going to the shops.

Dewpoints are too high, we need the continental air to fight back.

OK everyone - this is not scientific but emotionallly based. Expect 18z to totally wipe away any hope the 12z put before us, then if it underlines it or even upgrades it the sweeter it will feel. I can't be doing with a repeat of today.

We should be comparing the 18z with last nights 18z. Any move towards the 12z will be a positive sign, even if it doesn't look as good.

Sparkle in be in Leyland at work by 8am tomorrow. Hoping to see some whiteness there, but travel disruption to get home. Northern rail will cope (maybe).

South Lakes did quite well from Sundays snowfall, not much over this side, melted by the next day. Even the hills don't seem to have much.

Are you thinking March 2010? The mountains had so much snow that winter, would love to see those alpine conditions again this year!

Looks good - Helm Crag Greenburn today :)

I'm refusing to get enthusiastic about anything as whenever I do, I watch everything fade and die.

If I refuse to believe anything will fall, then maybe I won't be quite as disappointed when it doesn't.

You will....sorry.gif

12z went off on one...behave

dp is -1.9C

I suspect the lack of settling in some areas is due to the wind strength. There will be a hidden corner somewhere close with a pile of the stuff!

The really cold feed of air will be with us overnight, expect falling temps and a severe windchill in the continental flow and very cold uppers.
