Just a warning for those this easterly could be convective, just had a look at the sat image and the speckle cloud is certainly diminishing and there appears to be alot of stratuscumlus cloud forming which of course will tie in with the BBC forecast of very little sunshine and snow tomorrow.

We'll see what happens when winds do back to an ESE'ly, but there might be less convection than some may imagine from looking at the set up on paper.

Hubby just took my mam home (before we got stuck with her help.gif ) and he says the roads between Jarrow and South Shields are horrendous, the snow plough even was locking up and skidding all over the place

Ill second that snowmegedon, steady light snow falling for the past 2 hrs, i don't think the wind direction has changed yet either, could wake up to a fair amount in the morning if the wind changes and we get some luck from the north sea.

I'm about ready to write this one off to be honest.

Beware of a slight thaw layer in the night, Aberdeen has been a touch marginal today with the onshore wind.

Just done a slighty more scientific measurements - the snow is the depth of my finger on top of my bin which using http://iruler.net/ is 10cm, a fair chunk less on the path and road though. So yeah, moan away Nick.

Well here in Newcastle we've had snow falling heavily for about 2 hours or more now.

Alza, you've missed a trick! Ploughs out. Roads completely covered here in Heaton, Wallsend and towards the coast.

Mate of mine in denton Burn says they've had a few flurries! Unlucky!!

By the way, I take it these are convective showers merging???????

The netweather accumulation graphic on the radar for the the last 12 hours says it all really.

I thought convective showers would be kicking in after this strip had gone.. can't say i see much evidence of that.

I really pick my times to go away don't I! At least it should be still there on Sunday, and I saw plenty falling this afternoon.

Moderate snow in Keswick with increasingly big flakes; looks like this is orographic as it is forming over the fells.
