Seems to have warmed up a touch here, don't know weather its sleet falling or the tiniest of snow flakes, any idea if this direction in the wind will be changing soon?

The netweather accumulation graphic on the radar for the the last 12 hours says it all really.

I thought convective showers would be kicking in after this strip had gone.. can't say i see much evidence of that.

first rule of weather,IGNORE GRAPHICS.it does what it wants to do.

indications are from the models are that the PPN will peak by midnight before dissipating through the night, however, they are becoming increasingly bullish with respect to some significant snowfall during Sunday evening and night....

Kato, we have been quite lucky again in boro, no were near as good as the three inches we got on Tuesday but still 2-3 cms, all depends on the wind direction i think lol

hopefully you will get something before the night is over!!!

Update.... snow stopped for 10mins then started again at moderate intensity. The wind has picked up. I think this signifies we ere now on the other side of the trough and any ppm will be of a showery nature. However I am concerned that the uppers are not cold enough to balance the relatively warm SSTs..........

I'd be very worried about rising temperatures, Boulmer has been reporting rain and 3C tonight.

Looks like becoming a bit more marginal near the east coast now as Neil Bradshaw (South Shields) has a temp of 1.2C and dew point of -0.7C, which is consistent also with the reports of sleetier stuff in Teesside- though any heavier showers should drag the temperature down low enough to provide accumulations along the coast, except perhaps extreme fringes (Tynemouth for instance, while Boulmer has already been mentioned). Upwards of about 8 miles inland, I doubt that marginality will be a problem.

Just back from the West End of Newcastle, not a lot on the roads there. The Western Bypass is also clear. Once you get to Lobley Hill the roads start deteriorating.

Surprisingly the main roads in Consett are pretty much clear.

Up to 1.1C here, dewpoint -1C... I reckon about 4 inches of snow here, we got the trough later than most but still was substantial :) (again i'm terrible at judging depths so don't shoot me if i'm wrong)

I can confirm its sleet/rain falling now, also quite a strong breeze picking up, not looking to good at the minute but plenty of snow cover so ain't all bad.

Nice one snowstorm roles reversed tonight lol, you will also be far enough away from the coast too, won't be as marginal.

Why has it turned marginal, is that because the wind direction has not changed yet?
