Sc over the North Sea right now, lots of low cloud around, a bank of higher cloud to the SE of Scotland and some stuff off the NE coast with some light-mod precip.

Goes to show how some set ups on paper don't always work out sometimes as you may expect, I mean in one respect, the set up does look more like a sunshine and shower set up but oh well, its grey and cold with patchy outbreaks of snizzle/snow.

Well we only got a couple of cm fresh snow here in Newton Aycliffe.

SErley's NEVER produce here, because we're juuuuuust south enough to be in the "rain shadow" of the N York moors with snow coming in on that trajectory. Normally places a few miles north like Spennymoor, Ferryhill, Durham just manage to get into the firing line while we get snizzle on the edge. Last night the radar was a horror show.

So anyway, about 6cm lying, but the fresh stuff is very wet.

very slow thaw here and perhaps none at all if you are more than 10 miles inland.

The met office have upgraded the snow event on Monday for Darlington

monsnow2.png?t=1358604617

:)

I'm pretty sure that'll be either Durham or Bishop Auckland's forecast as the Meto don't seem to do a separate one for Darlington. If you search for Hexham, the symbols are identical to Newcastle, for instance. Promising all the same, but I still think it'll be sleet and rain at low levels.

The met forecast has prudhoe down for heavy snow at 9pm today. It was bang on the money yesterday and today so far but I can't see where heavy snow would come from by 9pm going off the radar. Anyone got any ideas

Met office snow warnings removed for today and tomorrow in NE England

The snow warnings are still there - http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/ne/ne_forecast_warnings.html

The Met office have also issued a snow warning for Tuesday for the northern half of NE England

Further snow is expected over parts of northeastern England and eastern Scotland during Tuesday. Over lower lying coastal areas accumulations are expected to be small whilst inland accumulations of 2-5cm are widely expected and above 200m in excess of 10cm is possible. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel.
