I find it weird Gavin that Darlo is just about three miles from me and the snow is so different. Think we are about the same asl as well ???

6.5" in the best spots in my garden here (non drifted). Now at its most marginal all day! Lots of graupel.. any ideas as to what the hope for flakes is tonight?

Yep it's snowing, albeit very very light. Is it meant to get any heavier?

Looking at the radar you will get more snow mate and a reasonable amount

It's a bit more than 3 miles from Aycliffe to Darlo, what part of town are you in? As for asl, all of Aycliffe is higher than Darlo.

It's all graupel at the moment... fingers crossed for something pretty!... I tell you what though, when it's as windy as it's been today, even flakes struggle to look "pretty"... awesomely bleak yes!... and I like awesomely bleak. ;-)

As an aside, Id like to see how some places east of the A9 do overnight, some of the towns like Braemar, Pitlochry, Ballater etc are going to get the full effect of orographic forcing as the SE wind slams square into the Highlands....worth a check in the MacForum in the morning...

It's certainly getting heavier mate, looks to be intensifying every second. This could be a fun night after all.

Small squall line seems to have appeared out of nowhere behind the main system....maybe this ain't over....oh dear....

If you look at the radar our streamer starts off in the ipswich area and meanders its way up here as far as i can read it to directly hit our region it dosent look as heavy as todays snow but should provide a few more hours of reasonable stuff and may give boro a covering (hopefully)

The one unmistakable truth however is that darlo will get none

According to the radar we should have snow around 20:15 we shall see..............

What does this mean then? Sorry I'm an amateur

Sometimes behind the main system, a linear feature of convective activity (heavy showers) can occur. Being convective they can appear and dissipate fairly rapidly. The 'oh dear' is because we have enough snow thank you.
