The polar NW'ly still being modelled for the start of next week which would deliver frequent heavy wintry showers and blustery winds, not had a set up like that for a while so I'm looking forward to that :)

Another very windy day coming up it's already howling outside gusting 40-50mph.

what time was that? I was watching The Omen II until gone 3:30am and only got some moderate rain, didn't hear any thunder.

About 4am. Quite a squall moved across Cheshire, will upload the radar grab when I'm on the laptop

Yeah it was quite a storm last night for some, I was working in Wilmslow at the time but all we got there was heavy rain and winds which gave most of the trees a trim. But we had a lot of reports of security alarms going off around Macclesfield and Congleton because of it.

Then I was driving home an hour later just after 6am and the roads were still white from all the hail in Macclesfield.

This should deliver snow showers to the region :

http://www.wetterzen...s/Rtavn1321.png

The more I look at the output Ian,the moreI realise the winds are shown as too westerly for us right in the south of the region. Will send the showers piling into Manchester but not here. We need more Nw'ly flow.

Been stung many times by this. Most notably Jan '10

True polar NW'lys are becoming as rare as hens teeth with them being progged only for the winds to shift more w'ly as the time draws closer

You've had your fill this winter it's my turn now.tongue.png

An interesting set up next week for all of us in the NW, one which reminds me of January 1984 although this won't be as prolonged or as severe.

Would be interesting if anyone can pull yesterdays Shear forecast for the UK, I have a suspicion that the Pennines played their part in advecting convection given the cell was pretty benign until it hit the western Pennine region at 4.25am from there it maintained intensity right up into Matlock before ebbing away.

Never seen such intensity like it before, although the night-time hours played its part well in exposing the lightning. But it's been quite a while since we had one of those kind of cells move on through.

The westerly flow shown favours areas north of the Mersey so IMBY it looks good but the uppers look a little marginal for widespread snow and altitude will probably play a big part in who gets what.

Another area of concern is the low shown heading SE down the North Sea which seems to have a lot of warmer air within the circulation. TBH I think it's after this system has passed that the chance of cold and wintry conditions increases.

Given the forecast for next week it will be nice to see some frost again. I don't like the wet wild & mild weather :)

Couldn't care less about a watered down polar westerly. I just want summer now to be honest.

Shorts, T-shirt, sunshine AND A BEACH.
