Interesting how nobody appear to pull their wipers off the screen to avoid them freezing with ice, but then again maybe they are not planning on going anywhere. Having said that, I can’t do it on my car as the bonnet prevents lifting the wipers, so could be the case for all those present. Hmmm.

It also might be that the snow is normally so dry you can just blow it off, or the weight of snow when its wet with so much of it bends the wipers.

Yes, pre Christmas was not the best but this present snow storm is something special. Funny as it is, we seem to be getting masses of snowfall during the past 20 years or so, even though the yearly temps keep increasing. Must be one of the oddities of global warming with the extra moisture it creates in the lower atmosphere. Any where above 1000m gets snow and almost nothing these days in lowland Europe.

@carinthian I’m in need of some morale boosting, some moral support, some snowpositiveness! 
 

Due to travel to Obergurgl in April for first ever Easter trip, taking my little princess who loves skiing and the snow.  
 

Tell me conditions are more optimistic than forecasts would suggest?

Hi Dave, I have never skied there but is one of the highest or if not highest villages in Austria. So I would expect snow still to be prevail in abundance. I do hope little one and yourself enjoy the majestic surroundings of the snow covered peaks. I am sure you will be fine.

Dramatic pictures taken today of exit avalanche cutting through the road tunnel that leads to The Pitztal Glacier.Awesome power.

Anyone interested in the well being of Austrian Glaciers will be pleased to know that The Dachstein Glacier is fully open to visitors this summer so far and appears to be in fairly good condition compared to recent summers . The Ice Palace also open as is the suspension bridge . Some lower temps and bit of snow on the glacier is forecast for tonight which all helps longevity during the peak heat months.

Morning nice sunny but much cooler . Good to see to view the local glacier ( Dachstein) webcam showing a nice fresh snow cover. Peaks of the local mountains above 2500m retaining patches.

Gosh, this reminds me of when we honeymooned at Fuschl. It was just stunning in the summer and we had the hottest weather for the beginning of June. We walked from lake Fuschl to another lake, I can't remember the name, all across fields and through forests. It was glorious.

The close by pretty village of Filzmoos (1050m absl ) reached 30c this afternoon.  Regionally, the hottest day of the summer. Quite exceptional for end of August.
