Looks like snow above about 5500 ft in Wengen/Lauberhorn, they put the snow cannons out about 2 weeks ago!

A nice mostly sunny weekend on the local mountain. Frosty at night, helping keep what bit of snow we still have in the shade.

Snow falling this morning down to village level in Kaprun (780m). More forecast to come tomorrow with 13cm predicted for village and 62cm for the glacier!

My son is hanging up his skis for the day tomorrow and heading to Vienna for the day to sort out some admin.....good timing!

Some now pictures from the local mountains. Snow level down to 800m . Current freezing level 1400m. Snow now mainly light with full cloud cover. Nearby Obertauren  ski-ing season starts this weekend and plenty of snow now to work with.

 Love it when it snows at night time. Clouds cleared away this morning and clear cold start , -6c in village but windy with blowing snow . Snow blowers in full blast on the pistes at the moment.

Stunning sun rise yesterday morning in the village after overnight snowfall. Not so this morning cloudy, windy and feeling very cold.

Hi Big Dave, just got back from a New Year visit to my daughter in Frigid Stockholm. What a shock , so cold over there and most of Scandinavian Alps having a wonderful snowy season so far . Yes arriving back in Salzburgerland yesterday evening felt like April. This morning dawns mild yet again with mostly cirrus covered skies. Snow looks patchy in resort and quite honestly  the worst start to the season for quite some time. Even high resorts are struggling to to keep the pistes in good condition as the above freezing temps are relentless. Far too warm for snow making . Its all rather depressing as cancellations are coming in at a alarmingly  rate. Not good for the ski-ing industry after the world wide problems that had affected the hospitality industry last season. Increased costs of ski-ing holidays becoming out of reach for many. Need a boost soon ( snow ❄) .

This picture from the small resort of Fanningberg in the nearby Lungaue region. Located at 1400m is a ski in out village. The local pub this morning being cleared of drifting snow. Good man. Currently my favourite synopics in the Eastern Alps. Plenty of snow showers feeding in from the NW around the strong Biscay High. Sunshine and powdery snow falling. Perfect.
