It has been a very exciting 24 hours with the build up offering excitement too. Easily the best thundery spell I have seen for a while and it is not over yet. There are further chances the next few days for a number of us, although probably not with the same intensity.

Fax Chart is perfect this Saturday for some French Imports. Or anything from the Iberia's and Bay of Biscay.

That's  a good point actually - someone posted about nocturnal cooling.  Will this aid or kill any current or potential storms?

What the hell! same thing happened again like this morning, nice storm approaching, few flashes of lightning as I set the camera up then nothing, very frustrating!

At least that's two weak storms pass over and heard one pass to the east of here, not bad for one day and the garden has now had a good soak. Absolutely hammering it down just now!

Yes I can see cauliflower tops developing to my west as a silhouette.

The seeds of that instability passed here about 45 minutes ago.

Seems to be something lurking to the east of me aswell.

Storms all missed me today, pinning my final hopes on that storm west of Sheffield. Had a clearance a few mins ago and got a beautiful view of the Cb's

Just sat and watched a cell blow over. Lots of long rumbles and the odd flash. The strange thing was watching whisps of dark grey clouds just seem to get sucked into the mass.. never seen anything quite like it! Is there a name for that?

Apparently a supercell erupted in Nottingham causing flash flooding. Comes from this page, doubt it was a supercell, this particular organisation seems to make stuff up for likes on Facebook.

Scud clouds

Scud clouds, a type of fractus cloud, are low, detached, irregular clouds found beneath nimbostratus or cumulonimbus clouds. These clouds are often ragged or wispy in appearance. When caught in the outflow (downdraft) beneath a thunderstorm, scud clouds will often move faster than the storm clouds themselves. When in an inflow (updraft) area, scud clouds tend to rise and may exhibit lateral movement ranging from very little to substantial.

Where about's?

There's one NW of me, about 15 miles or so from Bolton, and another east of Crewe/Chester, heading north.
