MetO precip forecast seems keen to deliver some fairly heavy precip later this afternoon, in a linear fashion as described by the issued forecasts above.

Yep, NW Extra NMM going with that over a couple of hours, especially over Norfolk and some of EA:

Thunder/lightning? Estofex had us under a level 1, meto had yellow, ukasf had SLGT, Skywarn has us under a warning, so i was atleast expecting a bit of thunder.

Ah, the main idea was the potential for a tornado and perhaps a supercell if any decent convection could get going. A classic British low CAPE high shear setup - ingredients were there, just needed to be utilised. Thunder/lightning risk was always fairly low. :)

Its not often you see a long thin band of heavy rain like is on the radar just now (circled in black)

It could be this band moving north that results in the nnm charts coast posted above? Could be some storms for a lucky few along this line

Met O severe weather warning still in place for today, mostly for SW areas:

Issued at:
1635 on Sun 4 Aug 2013

Valid from:
2000 on Sun 4 Aug 2013

Valid to:
1600 on Mon 5 Aug 2013

Rain will turn heavy on Sunday evening, continuing overnight and into Monday before easing away eastwards. Accumulations of 20-40 mm are likely in many parts with the risk of more than 60 mm over parts of SW England. The public are advised to be aware of the risk of surface water flooding. A waving frontal zone will remain slow moving across the area before slowly clearing east on Monday, conditions improving over Wales, NW England and Scotland during the morning, though not till the afternoon further south. Rain could turn thundery at times with some intense downpours within the longer spells of rain. There is the chance that this warning may be upgraded to amber, especially for SW England.

Not even a lot of rain here, and not windy at all. Dry now.

If it carries on with the same intensity and direction, it could bring some high rainfall rates over a brief period to areas of the SE shortly:

There's a lot going on associated with this front sweeping West to East:

MCS out West, jet-streak fibre feature to the SW and cyclonic vorticity over the SE.

Further rain will affect parts of western England, Wales, northern England and southeast Scotland through today before easing away eastwards. That heavy bit in the channel looks like it's going to go east of here instead.

Pretty heavy downpours on and off here but those rumbles in Bridgend are too Far East for me to hear
