Been talking to locals around here, and apparently in this area yesterdays storm was the worst since 87, it didn't beat it though.

John

I want to thank you for your posts not just during the storm but all year, I joined last year as the snow hit and I find your posts so good, i feel I have learnt quite a bit this year but prob only 1-2% of what you and other respected posters know! Thanks again and also massive thanks to everyone else who has helped me gain some knowledge this year and I will continue to read the board and who knows one day I maybe helping to forecast

Thanks all

Well now everything has calmed down a bit. What is there to look forward too.

The low next weekend looks shallower than todays, but there is also disagreements there, kind of a UKMO/ECM vs GFS/GEM theme. To be honest nothing look particularly severe and apart from a brief northerly on the ECM, not much to speak of on the cold front.

Sad to hear of those deaths, Given that most of the deaths happened to people who were indoors, then it's just a case of horrific luck rather than people chancing their luck and being punished for their naivety to mother nature :(

We had a top gust of 55mph at 6am. Low pressure still giving us heavy rain through the morning gusty winds though did ease. Afternoon saw sunshine before some big anvil/ cumulonimbus clouds giving some great backdrops by evening. Heavy shower right now and a rather cool 7.4c. I hope you all stayed safe.

Indeed. I'm sure there were many 'close shaves' today. Thankfully the death toll wasn't higher. Maybe people now have a little more respect for the wind after this, well, I hope so anyway. Seeing a tree crashing to the ground on 30 yards or so in front of me whilst driving was a tad scary!

As you say, not much to speak of on the cold front. Will make for a muddy, rather mild Guy Fawkes Night, pretty standard for the UK I suppose, even if most of us do think of it as being wrapped up in scarves and gloves!

err nice, the zone that forecast was in for bad weather did not include Hull IIRC, so your point is?

Jax don't rise to it been a long day. For some in godly reason and I seriously have no idea why there is a tonne of trolls who are jealous of the storm why I really have no idea.

You are right and I reason to your good caution.

I think I've learnt a lesson today. People seem more likely to react to bad / extreme weather like flooding, heavy snowfall, fog etc because it can be seen... I for one over the past few days was hoping for a big wind storm, but last night I kept waking up not to see the storm, but to make sure my wife and children were okay. I mean, you can see flood water rising, heavy snowfall getting deeper, or fog so dense you take all the proper precautions necessary. Wind in my mind as shown today is an invisible killer. I can honestly say, I will never wish for a major wind storm again. I get a real buzz when extreme weather is being forecasted, but not anymore where wind is concerned.

Kicking off a bit in here ain't it?

They're probably tired and grumpy.

Today I learned I am too old to go to bed at midnight, and wake up at 4.30am and work al day. Could do it when I was younger but not any more it seems.

I've decided I love hot sunny days, snow for around a week, autumn and spring blustery days, but I don't like gales.

Been through too many now and there's nothing nice too look at during or after them, only destruction.

My thoughts are with the family's of those who lost there lives.

I am enjoying being back here discussing my favorite topic.

Can't wait for the friendly joking and banter amongst my nw folkes.

One of which is perfect storm who is not a troll and normally a very good informative contributer on these boards.

With so many posts if you Botherd to look he couldn't be!

I think he was just making a little light hearted joke whilst informing people he didn't get the kind of weather where he was that we experienced.

Maybe some peeps a bit tired after a long night and day.

But don't jump on someone because they made a lighthearted joke.

Especially since there has been alot of sad news.

We need some reprieve from it from time to time.

We can't all be too serious all the time.

Cheers all x

Evening everyone, At last, Internet was not working, due to some tech fault,However all is fine now.Well what a wild morning it was,Few trees down here,Debris around etc, Clean up in progress around the district. My thoughts go out to those people who lost there lives, It is one of the bitterest pills to swallow hearing and reading news like that. Its nice to see everyone on here still going and i hope you all have not endured to much from today's event. Just goes to show it did not have to be replica of 1987,It still caused damage on many levels and a lot of sadness.
