I was just thinking how nice it would be to be able to over winter in the Caribbean.

Long hot sunny days, swimming in warm seas, sitting on a beach relaxing then warm nights with a gentle cooling breeze.

Now I'll go to sleep thinking of snow, ice and cold!Posted Image

Evening all,

A very windy day here especially this morning around 6-07:30. Very powerful gusts and plenty of trees down in the area.

Another one who would like to thank all the stalwarts on the regional board for their invaluable information and  advice during the last few days particularly JP Coast and MK.

I remember shaking all night through 87 in a flat in Penge High Street ;listening to bricks falling down the chimney and shop fronts shattering thinking that a riot had broken out, only to try to drive to work next day, shocked at the damage. I also was suddenly and severely flooded in the thunderstorms of 20th July 2007.

So I for one was really frightened about the potential of this storm, surrounded by mature leafy trees and a stream,  but you guys have helped keep it in perspective and also enabled me to feel a bit more in control in terms of damage limitation and what to expect.

I'm glad the rain came before the wind as my area recorded 45mm rainfall and my stream was right to the top of its banks by 2am. The guinea pigs were starting to unpack their water wings. Luckily water levels were well down when the huge weeping willow next to my house was snapped off at the trunk  and fell into the stream and across my fence. Local weather stations recorded particularly strong gust at 62mph at the time. Thankfully the eucalyptus remained standing otherwise it could have been a different outcomeAll credit to the Environment Agency who were round with their chainsaws at 8am this morning clearing the water course.

Without the advice on here I would not have nailed down everything in the garden and damage could have been a lot worse...the continual analysis during the event was a great help in keeping the nervousness manageable.

So once again my thanks to all.xxx

Thank you JP, MK and Coast and everyone on Netweather for constant up dates and advice. Not forgetting the lovely touches of typically English humour for which we are famous when things look a bit bleak, like. :)

Cheers guys. And good night each. :)

Hi John  adding a little to this ramp I know that my county council had a long range weather report giving us a colder snowier winter than the last one, having been surprised by this I searched for some more long range forecasts and was amazed that back in August a guy forecast a bad blow for the end of October and a bad winter starting early November one right so far,OK there are lots of these reports and as everyone knows they are only looking at trends but I also found one guy who had drawn together a long list of different reports by many world wide groups, sea temps,Siberian temperature drops and many other forecasters tools,he did not ramp anything but picked their predictions out and based on them came to a conclusion....and it was.... pause for dramtic effect  Posted Image a cold snowy winter starting early with a couple of prolonged periods of very cold temps, with us hanging on to the cold well into the new year like this year.PS I am still trying to refind this guy but I use numerous computers and have not found it yet.

Well knowing you give a lot of thought to what you put in your reports have you any thoughts on this coming winter?

If you are having a well earned break from posting I will pick up you reply later in the week,

Thanks

Chris

Hats off to all the Emergency Services. Kudos also to some unsung heroes,  the thousands of men and women out there who have been working flat out to restore power and utilities, clear the rail tracks and the roads etc.

Indeed. I was amazed how quickly the council sent a couple of men to remove the big poplar. It wasn't hanging over or blocking a public road, just a quite well-used public footpath the other side of the line of trees. But they were there at 4:00pm doing their stuff.

Excellent service.

Posted Image

bottom right ukmo raw

now at present this looks very windy

not as yesterday

however plenty of rain and with a 976 low showing this could be a problem

jet stream prediction at present

though this is gfs so will change

tomorrow night will hopefully put this low elsewhere but i will be looking at advisory watch if sunday shows this low take a more southerly route

hi blackprince

i did do a long ranger but this has hit a snag as i thought it might

i will find it and pm you it

the reason for the problem is solar activity has been quiet for a while

however over the last couple of weeks it has decided to wake up

this from my eyes tends to force the jet north

everyone was expecting the jet to drop south by now

i still expect it to drop south but not for a couple of weeks

i use this link

http://www.solarham.net/

and this one

http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/alerts/warnings_timeline.html

for info

as you can see solar has and still is high at present

keep watching that and that should give a clue to the jet behaviour

(this is my opinion but seems to work for me)

hope that helps

john

Sorry to add clutter to the forum but can I echo what has been said about MK, Coast, Tamara and especially John with the information they have given us recently. John to put it bluntly you rock, you show us the charts and then you explain what they are showing I have learnt a lot from you and I would like to thank you for putting up with us when we hound you for more specific information. Not only do you try to oblige you explain how we can learn to come up with this information ourselves. You were a total star last night/this morning.

I will 2nd that ! excellent as always ,cheers guys xx
