A minor snow event trying to sneak in under the radar for the early hours

of Saturday morning as a warm front spreads in from the west into

temperatures at or below freezing.

Quite a day today weather wise, thats for sure, with just about everything thrown in.

10000 homes in middlesbrough without power due to a power station becoming flooded,

Not the best of nights to have no power

Yes big power cut in Middlesbrough. Linthorpe Road came to a standstill earlier because of the blackout. Teesside University had to shut early and it is not known whether it will be open tomorrow. Middlesbrough College flooded. Acklam Grange secondary school where I used to go, closed today and tomorrow because of the roof being blown off.

I went in 2004-2009...what teachers did you have? I might know some of them if they lasted that long.Power slowly being put back on. I live in Linthorpe Village and thankfully we had no power cut here.

Haha Mr Jones was quality! He was my head of year. Mr Bates left his role as head teacher soon after our year group left.

All the flooding has certainly put my anger at losing my recycling box into perspective. I don't think I have seen wind that bad for a long time.

There is a wooden bench outside my house which in the biggest gust got flipped and blown across the floor about 8ft from the grass to the pavement.

Seem to have got away without any serious damage occurring up here though.

According to this story, a plane was struck by lightning on approach to Newcastle. Did anyone manage to hear any thunder or see any lightning during today's storm?

Lots of strikes in the morning although mainly out over the north sea.

So far not quite gone below freezing but a very cold breezy night. There's been a light shower of hail type stuff and the hills are slightly white.

Met Office hinting at the possibility of light now later today before it turns to rain. Not sure how they expect it to turn to rain as temperatures are forecast to be low all day.

Less cold air will be making its way over later tonight although surface temperatures will stay cold at first but they'll respond during tomorrow before we see double digits on Sunday and Monday

NAE has dropped the hints of any snow tonight

Through Friday afternoon and evening a warm front moving in off the Atlantic will bring the risk of a spell of snow later on this evening with a subsequent risk of icy conditions. At the moment, above 200m to 250m across Scotland and Northern England then 2cm to 5cm of snowfall seems possible. There may also be a spell of freezing rain as well across some north-eastern areas of country. I have highlighted on the associated graphic which areas may see some snow, freezing rain and icy conditions later today – Note that low lying and coastal areas will see rain or drizzle
