Dreary a touch breezy blowing the trouser legs. Dry at least quite highish clouds gentle patches of blue as the dreary grey breaks in places. I think I am going to give up on any snow this side of march lol.

I suppose it proves that even a lad from the wrong end of Dartford can succeed with no education, except from the university of life (how I hate that expression) wish me luck, however I can assure you that I will win,

:good:

I submit the final bid for a multi $million, 10 year contract with a major US military supplier today. If we are successful it means doubling the workforce and stability for the company for at least the contract period (+ we become a major exporter, which I really like).

Same type of education as you CK, but with a bit of hard graft, some lucky breaks and the backing of a company with consistent, quality engineering, I seem to have scrapped through.

If only the weather could be as rewarding at the moment.

My interest has been taken by this potential that has appeared over several recent GFS runs:

God, I swear its been like pulling teeth with no anaesthetic in getting this Easterly this year. You watch, it will turn up in late June eventually.. Zzzzzz!

On the plus side, at least SST's will be on the high side, giving perhaps a head start to the summer and convective season.

As for today, it was really noticeable how mild it was stepping out the door at 5.45 this morning! Felt kind of nice.

Anyway, hope business as usual goes well for all!

what does the Thomson index shaded bit mean?

It's only a rough stability guide, but seems to work quite well as a rule of thumb. Here are the values:

TI    < 25      no thunderstorm.
TI    25-34    potential of thunderstorms.
TI    35-39    potential of thunderstorms approaching severe.
TI    => 40    potential of severe thunderstorm.

Have a nice day all and thanks again for the positive stories.

Sometimes all the education and certificates in the World don't prepare you for a successful working life. Your son sounds like he will find his niche at some point and his abilities may be artistic or somewhere deep inside, not necessarily taught to him. I didn't discover how to make my way through life until well beyond my school years - Lord Sugar seems to have done alright from the point when he was selling car aerials in the markets of London.

It looks like there is a break in the rain coming up before another cold front moves in overnight:

It's been nice reading the posts this morning about school and later life achievements (if that is the right word?). Now aged 14, my son, who you may know has aspergers, despises school, learns nothing, cannot concentrate or understand the lessons (at a specialist school with 4 in his class plus learning support assistants plus teacher), cannot manage even the most basic homework at the level of around an 8-9 year old and after his day off sick yesterday is considering faking its continuity so I can come to pick him up; the school has even noted he is borderline depressed while there. I feel there is no possibility whatsoever of him taking GCSEs and this morning in the car discussed how he might come into his own learning-wise once older, in his 20s or something. Meanwhile he has just hit 103 subscribers on his Youtube channel for his animations that he makes, spends time every week responding to comments and had 60 000 views - yet his ICT report shows him at the level of a 6 year old. At a time when I am starting to finally admit he will not be able to achieve educationally, I really do believe he can still succeed in life. Your posts have been very positive in that regard.

Back on topic, it is grey and mushy and damp and horrible today after a few nice cold and frosty starts. I have some fab pics of Kingston riverside flooded from the weekend but have not had time to post them, will do so soon. Unfortunately my blood pressure has turned out to be rather high, having always been very low indeed, so I am now monitoring it through the day and obsessing over reading up on it all before I see my GP, so this has distracted me from this lovely forum somewhat.

Have a nice day all and thanks again for the positive stories.

hi reefseeker

I am another one of those people who achieved more when leaving school, although school gives a grounding for the future people can achieve great things when leaving. I myself failed my eleven plus, went to a school that if it still existed now would be in special measures im sure and left school at fifteen....no exam qualifications to my name but since leaving I served an electrical apprenticeship, got city and guilds with distinction in electronics and then went on to get city and guilds in teaching and taught at an engineering school on the railway until early retirement!!. So it is possible as other people on this forum have proved and good luck to your son for the future.

Well while we are on the personal subjects, I thought I would share some of my current problems. For no other reason than to get some off my chest really as it sometimes helps.

So coming back from holiday and after taking 3 weeks off from my contract (mandatory so dont get paid for that time either), On the way back from the airport and the suspension goes on my car....New car needed.

My landlord who is a difficult A**hole at the best of times has now served us notice so need to find somewhere else to live (having just got 2 of my kids into the school over the road).

And my current contract is up in March, plus I owe the tax man lots and lots of money that I dont have to give him.....

Now where is that rock so I can crawl under it?

Weather is....well pretty rubbish and boring to boot. Roll on 2015!!

Hi Lioydyd. Surely you're landlord cannot give you notice just like that. You have tenants rights. I think you should look into that at the CAB. He very definitely sounds like a git. Hope things start to look better for you and yours. Mornin each. Weather is dull, grey and proper miserable here in Ippy. Ugh! Roll on Spring indeed. Having said that....the daffodils are really growing now. Have a good day, folks. :)

I hated school and now at 29 I have started at University as a mature student. I wasn't ready at 18... I'm still not sure I am ready now :) not all people are academic. I love this quote:

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.†Einstein

Intelligence and skill are measured in so many different ways - being good a school work is only one of them.

David Beckham - not so great scholastically but would you say he is stupid or useless?  Everyone has their calling, its just a case of finding it. Good luck to your lad in finding his.

Ever since the South East snow cover thread was set up we've had zilch, I think it may have cursed it Posted Image

Ahem Mr.Shotski, I do believe I may have a reasonable case to start legal proceedings against you for libel, after such an outrageous accusation. I happen to have in my employ the top lawyer in the S.E., alright then the S.E. of Reigate.

Where are you when I need you Abruzzi? If you win this case for me, you will be rewarded with a few more bottles of Nasty Spumante.

Apart from any libel damages awarded to me Mr. Shotski you will also be levied with a Snow Cup penalty.

Your fellow entrants may also have zilch but you sir will be starting on -5 cms. I hope this will be warning to any entrants who wish to vent their spleen against the Snow Cup. It will result in the unleashing of the Pit-Bull that is Mr. Abruzzi Spur! (wink)

Yours truly disgusted,

Tom

Thank you so much to all of the lovely posters and likers who have responded to my rant/appreciation over what life holds and what education can or cannot do - Fluid dynamic, Planet thanet, BJ, Coast and Madmunch, your thoughts are much appreciated, and Madmunch I have copy and pasted your Einstein quote and can reassure you that in my experience, university lecturers much prefer mature students and mature students will always do well and deliver (no pressure!). Lloydyd, sorry to hear about your woes; I prefer to see such times as blips and patches rather than a downhill slide, and try to imagine the time I will be looking back on this period and what I did/they did and how I will feel. Not easy when you're deep in it of course.

Still grey, still mild, and as for the MAD, I'm going in, wish me luck, I could be gone a while, and I'm protected only by my mild weather clothes, hoping that I can change to the winter clobber some time soon:)
