Looks like a three way battle ground right over us, which will win, cold from thee east, polar maritime or the warm SW.

I better apologise to everyone re my throw away remake this morning about my educational abilities, but sod it it caused a series of such heart warming stories that have lifted the gloom of today, there are to many for me to comment upon, but hope you get your maintenance order coast and you / your company achieve the success it's deserve, for reefseeker , madmarch, Alexandra, chilly milly, your stories of your children endeavours just make me feel humble, I wish them all the great success their determination deserve. I been so touched by there stories, I am going to try to boost their determination by telling them something about my life that my wife or my children don't even know about me, so keep it quiet and let on :-)

When I was around 3 I couldn't speak properly, well only my dear departed mum could understand me, I had something wrong with the inside of my mouth and my tongue couldn't operate correctly, thus my pronunciation was terrible. After about a year and just before I went to school, it was decided that I needed speech thereby, I went and it was like a big game to me, but I had a fantastic teacher, who had faith and believe in me, she taught me that I could say any word despite my deformity, she also taught me how I could say any word, including ones I still trip over to this day, it was a simple thing, one that I have subconsciously taken into all parts of my life, when I get stuck or don't know how to do something. It is to say in my head "I can't say" the word, simply but great advice, and you can use it in any situation. I been at very formal meeting and got stuck trying to say a word, I just can't say it, and it won't come out, people try to help, but if I say those 3 little words then blow me it comes out perfectly, normally resulting in laughter from all present.

What does this load of old rubbish mean, basically if you can find somebody that can encourage and help you then you can overcome a handicap, if you keep with it then it is possible to actually turn the disadvantage into a an advantage, I did.

What was also interesting, at the same time I was struggling with my speech, my reading was also disadvantaged as the link between speak and the way words sounds are produced wasn't there. However my brain seemed to counteract thus as I developed at a very young age a love of maths, my father quickly picked up on this and he developed a game where he would shout out sums from anywhere in the house and I had to give the correct answer, but amazingly the answers to the sums anyone could understand, but only the sums. By the time I was 5 I do all my tables from 0 to 13, In fact I still can after 56years :-).

Forgot to mention my meeting, really brilliant day, 7 people sitting around a table, 5 nationalities, all trying to solve the problems, and guess what nobody realised that I was a think Kentish lad, still no answers yet, but they got another 2 days. Weather was drizzly all the way up and back, and far to mild.

I have thought that one day I should sit down and write my life story, which have had many highs, but so many lows, one day!!

Well my little man asked me if he will have snow for his birthday this sat told him will see what happens ( yes I know no snow but u don't know me yet.. ) if my children want sometime somehow I make it happen so am looking on eBay for a snow machine

Further to the posts from various members earlier about their children and their problems, may I just  say that you are really wonderfully people . This has to be the best regional forum for the stories, laughter, jokes and of course the weather.

I was thinking something similar when looking at the front page of the list of regional forums, ours seems to have so many threads whereas in some regions they hardly seem to post at all, it may be that our is one of the larger regions and that explains it, but I think its that we all get on very well here, and I feel like I'm amongst friends here, I think its been about five years I've been posting with you, maybe longer, not reflected in my current username as I had to reregister a couple of times over the years, and so I added the "1" after the name.

Just like to add from those heart warming stories earlier. I was useless at school left with no 'O' levels (urg that ages me eh). Got a job in a travel agency as I loved geography did that for a fair few years and drifted into teaching in a local college. Did my teaching degree and ended up a fully qualified FE lecturer.

 

My school reports were full of "could do better" type comments. So my motto is never give up and at the end of the day a degree is just a piece of paper and if you put your mind to it you can succeed.

Good idea! It actually has a surprisingly authentic feel to it, with the cafe / bar at the base, so you can just sit and watch.

 

Mild and mushy here. Not great, but not my worst (normal) weather type (North Sea haar has that dishonour)

Yes great place and their birthday package is good value, little one had her birthday party there two weeks ago and they all went sledging, my goodness it was cold at minus 5 and the snow was good

that is a very cold sourced wind west-north west

 

uppers 850

 

 

put the cold air slightly further south east

 

and we could have some fun

 

its all sooooo close to call on this

 

one thing i will say

 

i think the south east has the best chance of getting something out of this pattern

 

certainly making hard work this though

seems to have warmed up quite a bit here, Southernman gave up on trying to open the back door in the end, says we will have to wait till it stops raining, and the wood dries out and shrinks.

 

Which means that we may not be able to go outside for the rest of the year at this rate!

On the subject of children one of my best mates had the day one meet with his adopted son today. Been battling for about two years for this day and by all accounts it was amazing. I know the little boy has such an amazingly different and positive future now compared to all the suffering he has known in his three years on this planet.

Let's bring the children (and me) snow so they can go sledging!

There has once again been some inspirational and heartwarming posts on this thread today and I doff my hat to all the folk making those posts.

 

It gives me hope and cheers me up.

 

So, what about the weather then...........???   We are now exactly halfway through the winter and personally I'm glad I haven't had to pay a fortune to stay warm, though I can understand the disappointment at the lack of snow and proper winter weather. Still plenty of time for change though. Chins up folks.
