Could be some surprises tomorrow with some half decent CAPE around, much better values than today for some areas.

Lasting into the evening as well.

Looking good, is there a trigger though?

Now thats the question! Might have to rely on a good bit of surface heating to kick things off! Meto ppn charts look pretty good though with plenty of showers on the map, kicking off quite early tomorrow morning in the west if they are to be believed.

Unfortunately the cell which produced a couple of sferics is heading to Leicester. Mine is the weak pathetic one to the north of it. So, I will be going hungry tonight :D

Merseyside has done pretty well recently for thunder. 20 miles or so east, by contrast, Greater Manchester has done pretty poorly.

Usually Manchester getting the storms,we miss out in the summer

Most frustrating, the forum has been playing up for the whole day. Had to request for a new password. I had nothing to share anyway, We had no storms this is the most over hyped event of, my time at NW - and that's saying something. It's like expecting 15cm of Snow you wake up in the morning and there is zilch. There was significant downgrades in CAPE, at short notice, Such a shame.

I dont think he meant any offence by it Will, just lighthearted banter, if anything he was pointing out your admirable enthusiasm for storms! :)

Agreed, you have to be careful round here :p tomorrow I will get my Supercell

All the showers popping up are due to a surface based trough from Southern Island to the Bay of Biscay, at midnight. Showers developing more widely over land by Midday.

You can see that feature quite clearly now.

Feeling really good now. After watching my footage back I actually caught a massive close pulsing bolt of lightning that I thought I had missed when filming a storm in Stafford.

Goodness, on SAT24 vis Brussels looks like its been nuked, wow. That cell looks almost like a "hot tower" judging from the impressive shadow its throwing. Wonder how high the cloud tops are.

Goes to show what happens when the cap is finally broken by a mechanism like UHI or similar. Those isolated cells just suck up the energy laden air under the lid surrounding the storm like a gigantic

Hoover and spew it upwards into the troposphere. Quite amazing....

Talking about being capped: Was wondering what kept convection from getting-a-going in SE UK,the reason why I was chasing the 12z Herstmonceaux sounding. Looking at the GFS 18z charts for wind at 300 Hpa gives an idea: High winds aloft create divergence at the right exit (SE UK) Left exit is where the action is now over the UK. The position of the Jet will stay the same till past monday if the outcome coincides... Something to bear in mind when forecasting the next two days methinks :unknw:

Hope some more have a little lightshow tonight, I sure wont
