The changing daylight hours thread

Loving the lighter mornings and evenings but it is SOOOO cold!  Still wearing winter coat which is stupid for late April.  Where are those golden early mornings with the hint of summer on the air?

Morning all. 

Just been having a look on the Time and Date website, and the lingering twilight is now upon the mainland UK! Because of 01:37 this morning, Aberdeen once more entered the world of the lingering twilight. 

The next time Aberdeen will see true darkness will be on the 13th of August!

For my neck of the woods, I've got a couple more weeks till we enter the world of the lingering twilight which will be on the 15th May!

Now I know many of you will disagree with me, (and if you do, then hey that's fine ) but for me, the long hard slog up to the summer solstice is now underway for another year.

 Weather-history Oh god, that is depressing.

In our climate, so much of the year is one long, drawn-out slide into (a usually dull, wet and mild) winter. Climates which have decent weather in July, August and September are of course different.

The percentage of 2024 in which the weather is good and the nights are not drawing in will be staggeringly low.

Evening everyone.

The time is 22:20, and I’ve just been out with the dog before I head off to bed, and there is still light in the sky over towards the north west! 
 

Then whilst the dog was snuffling around the garden, I had a look on the Time and Date website… And I noticed that the border town of Berwick upon Tweed is now in the land of the lingering twilight!

According to time and date, 10 May marks the first day here with 'no night' as such, meaning its twilight time. Mid May brings a marked change in the psyche and whilst heatwaves may be some time off yet, in feel we rush headstrong into 'early summer'.

Only 6 weeks till the days draw in again thank god.

 

Hate the summer with kids playing out till late and people having parties in gardens till late as well.

i know i sound sad but love the winter nights a hell lot more then summer nights.

 Azazel There is a significant marked change in the psyche in mid May, no denying it, we rush head long into early summer base mode, its the anthesis to the week following the clocks going back. Something about this time of year makes you feel the year is really in full swing now. Its a brilliant time of year. There is an energy that is quite infectious, May is superb! It has that cusp on the edge of feel to all things positive. This feeling lingers through to the solstice, climbing up and up the rollercoaster.. plateaus through July then its down ..

At 01:26 this morning (or the middle of the night as most normal people would call it) for my part of the world, (53° north) we once more left the world of darkness for another summer season. 

This means that it will now never truly get dark again until 00:57 on the 29th of July! (Those of you who live further south have got a little bit of darkness, for a little while longer).

But for me, the lingering twilight season has begun.

The final long, hard, painful and torturous slog up to the summer solstice is now underway. 

Farewell darkness… I look forward to your return in late July.

First sunset after 9pm tonight and first night in lingering astronomical twilight! Will have our first pre 5am sunrise on Tuesday. Summer is coming!

Now at the point of the year where we have astronomical twilight throughout the whole night, which means that we are now in the lightest part of the year. No proper darkness now until the 26th of July.
