The clocks going back Sunday marks the most significant shift in state of mind psychologically. It is very abrupt, and does change how I feel. An immediate winter state of mind sets in.

It does your right! Didn't realise it was this week! Thought it was next weekend.

Too soon to be messing about with the clocks, waste of daylight at a time when its already shortening too much of an evening... 😞

The clocks roll back the weekend on the 29th 🙃 I had booked Whitby for the 31st but the clock-change means the sun will be down at around 4:30pm and the almost 4hr journey there & back on Tuesday+Wednesday isn't worth a overnight stay simply for a few hours of daylight to wander around Whitby Abbey, the Town and the beach (assuming the weather is also good.)

Just  checked - the clocks go back on Sunday 29th, not Sunday 22nd.

Sorry if mislead, poor use of language. I meant the 'clocks going back Sunday' figuratively speaking. We have one more weekend before we close the door on the 'lighter' season.

The clocks go back on Sun 29th Oct, 7 weeks and 4days before the shortest day on 21st Dec.
Can someone explain to me why we then have to wait 14 weeks and 3 days after the shortest day until we return to BST on Sun 31st March?
If we can all cope 7 weeks leading up to the shortest day on BST, why can’t we return to BST 7 weeks after the shortest day? I.e., Sunday 11th Feb?

Agreed, why do we wait so long to put the clocks forward to BST, surely end of Feb would suffice? 🤷‍♂️

Often thought that would be a good idea and probably save millions in energy usage

Seems logical tbh, mid November to end of Feb here should be enough nowadays....

Dark evenings have an appeal at first, more a novelty, they would soon wear off if it wasn't for christmas. By mid January though they feel never ending!

sunrise here is now past 8.10am ..which is pretty much later than it ever gets anywhere in the southern half of the UK at the darkest point of the year ..will still lose close to another 4 hrs of daylight before the solstice

Never understood why people moan so much. Get more than their fair share of light in summer when it's light til 11 and sunny by 4am in the morning. Never even gets properly dark for a few weeks around the solstice.

7.41am sunrise here at the moment. If the clocks didn't go back then the sun wouldn't rise until 9.23am around the winter solstice and it'd still set at 16.52, so the nights would still be early.

It’s human nature to dislike cold and darkness so the moaning is understandable. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone in real life who likes the darker evenings but they’re a dime a dozen on here 😅
