A slight formation of mammatus on the back of a cell not long ago.

That developed a lot better as it crossed Poole, the wife sent me some great shots of the mammatus as it crossed Poole. Her comment was "Almost as good as in the states!"

Bright sunny start after a low of 6.8C (don't know where these minima of 13C shown by the BBC are coming from!). Will today be the today? Showers will hopefully be more widespread than organised today so fingers crossed. It's been a remarkably dry convective spell here.

Just had a record rain rate of 153.6mm/ hour, in torrential downpours this morning!

5mm in 10 minutes with more streaming this way!

EDIT Not as inpressive as yours though Mapantz, we had some hail briefly too!

It was only short lived but 3mm dropped in 5 mins or so. Back to warm sunshine again!

What a great week for the weather enthusiast?! :)

This has to be the most thundery year for a long long time. Started with thunderstorms in January and we've had thunder, lightning every month since I think May. Probably seen more lightning, heard more thunder this year than the past few years put together. No particularly severe storms like the monsters of May 2011 and only a few were overhead but still impressive.

Had 2 downpours yesterday that gave 5mm in 10 minutes and 7mm in 10. Not much happening today though. Could be more downpours tomorrow!

Couldn't post at the time but drove into Bristol at 17:30 and was met by a thunder shower when I got there. Excellent roll cloud as it moved in off the Severn Estuary followed by one solitary bang of gunshot thunder and then a 20 minute monsoon. Roads to rivers in minutes and gusty winds. It was very dramatic and the first proper cell of spell.

Back home however is bone dry!

no showers today, ended up very pleasant............just seen Ian F's forecast, looks like another trough will pass up from the SW overnight into parts of the West Country allowing heavy thundery showers to develop overnight.....so, after not seeing a flash over the past few days, I might just get lucky tonight!

No rain here until well after sunset, then only for about half an hour and not very much.  Actually turned out to be a very pleasant and warm day, max at 17°C.

STUNNING Lightning show right now with lightning every 20-40 seconds now. Some incredible IC Lightning and strobe type lightning really lighting up the sky here, illuminating the cloud whilst the rest of the sky is clear. Beautiful.

Good morning guys.

I am playing golf today and hope not to get too wet!! (everything just dried off from thursday..

This morning has got some light amount of stratus cloud around the moon. I know never a good sign, but it might stay away this morning. (Always the optimist!)

However no wind and a temperature of 3.4C, so PROBABLY a ground frost out there. I don't measure it though.

While talking about that sort of thing. My weather station is at a height of about 8 feet in a fairly sheltered south facing garden.

It sems to collect a huge amount of dew on the outer shield overnight. Does/will this mean I am recording a wet bulb temp inside? It is recording 99% humidity at the moment..

Colder today, dropped to 12c overnight and only 14c now, brrrrr

When are the regions changing for the winter so us in the South are back with you boys and get to read and feel the correct weather :)
