well if geordiekev getting rain now then even if it did started off as snow, it would of certainly turned back to rain, the PPN was just weird, totally disorganised and the models to an extent got it wrong(they were predicting PPN to hit evening time and it never).

Apart from the slight risk of shower activity tomorrow morning before winds back too NW'ly, its onwards to Tuesday/Wednesday, things don't look quite as good but its one of those where on paper, it may look unspectacular but a slack flow could produce more in the way of prolonged PPN, and hopefully by then, its a clean proper convective Northerly... can't believe it this is our 3rd Northerly of the season and not one of them has been the proper sunshine and shower set up.

Cant remember last time we had one of those in the NE. They either have mild sectors or are capped with no convection, I feel the same frustration from you lads as the people in the eastern areas of my region. Hopefully we will see something Tues/Weds.

Couldn't resist sneaky look out of bedroom window and everywhere is covered and huge flakes. Strange old evening I have to say.

2 ice warnings issued this morning and Tuesday's snow warning is no longer in place for our region and is replaced with an Ice warning (see 2nd Ice warning below)

1st Ice warning

Issued at: 1019 on Sun 1 Feb 2015

Valid from: 1800 on Sun 1 Feb 2015

Valid to: 1000 on Mon 2 Feb 2015

Daytime showers will clear away to the south through Sunday afternoon and evening. Clearing skies following across all parts will allow both air and road temperatures to quickly fall below freezing. Icy stretches are likely to form on untreated roads and pavements. As a result, the public should be aware of the risk of tricky conditions.

Covers

Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, North Tyneside, Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside, Stockton-on-Tees, Sunderland

2nd Ice warning

Issued at: 1038 on Sun 1 Feb 2015

Valid from: 1200 on Mon 2 Feb 2015

Valid to: 1000 on Tue 3 Feb 2015

Showers of sleet and snow will affect the area, bringing local accumulations of a couple of centimetres, mainly on hills, as well as a risk of icy patches. The public should be aware of locally tricky driving conditions.

Covers

Northumberland, Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Sunderland, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside, Stockton-on-Tees

Wednesday's snow warning also updated

Issued at: 1112 on Sun 1 Feb 2015

Valid from: 0005 on Wed 4 Feb 2015

Valid to: 2355 on Wed 4 Feb 2015

Snow showers will continue to affect many eastern and northeastern parts of the UK through Wednesday. The focus of showers is likely to transfer from eastern Scotland to parts of eastern and southeastern England, as well as some central areas of England, through the day.

Some heavy snow showers are possible. Local accumulations of 1-3 cm are likely away from immediate coasts, with locally more than this over higher ground such as the North York Moors and Lincolnshire Wolds.

The public should be aware for the potential of disruption to travel.

Covers

Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Northumberland, Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside, Stockton-on-Tees, Sunderland

Yep, I've chucked the towel in now.

If we're going to be chilly and dry, we may as well have SW winds and some mildness.

Well Tuesday was a more persisant snow event but I never seen much evidence it was going too affect this region anyways. Tuesday into Wednesday is really our last chance saloon with showers coming in from the North Sea, it does not look great but sometimes surprises can happen.

I'll explain how this winter feels to those of us in the proper north (Sunderland and above until you hit north Northumberland/Scotland). Imagine walking into the most amazing club you've ever seen but it's so crowded that you can only remain in one section of the club so your park yourself down at the middle left; over to your right you've got the most intense swingers party going on with constant reloading (Cumbria), just in front of you is the most intense section and one hell of a bender - everyone's having a ball (Scotland), just behind of you (Durham/Teesside/Yorkshire) is a free concert by your favourite bands for the whole night, whereas in the section your left in is a group of boring saddos playing tiddlywinks and occasional a bit of water being passed around but some nutters (the Met Office) telling everyone it's a spliff on the way round.

Snow finally stopped about 11am
It's very wet here but you can see it drifting seriously over the high moors even from here.
