I'm not addicted to anything weather thankfully, I think if I was I'd probably be in need of a shrink. I mean there are more important things in life...

I think you're on the wrong forum pal!

Put it this way, I'd have never have entertained the idea of going uni or living down south. Purely for the reason of a lack of winter snow (generally). I'm a pure 10 on the scale.

Amusingly during my 4 years at Southampton doing my degree, it snowed every year, for two of those years there were some significant accumulations of over half a foot.

I have less of an addiction for snow these days as it does have an impact on everyday life, that said I will only being walking to work soon so snow won't be an climatic issue any more for me.

That said thunderstorms are certainly number 1 for me.

Don't know about you but quite a large majority of snow fans on here only view the 'snow' on a monitor, even if it's pouring down outside and settling they still keep glued to the radar to see when it may stop or start again. Go out and enjoy it, this forum should be dead quiet for a particular area when snow is falling and settling!

Reading was appalling for snow. I thought the NW Midlands was bad but central southern England is even worse! Can't imagine where I am now is particularly great either.

it ain't that bad honestly! 2010 onwards we have seen much more snow events, saying that we have done well here in East oxford, Didcot further south near m4 saw barely anything, so the whole m4 corridor conudurm again lol

I would give myself an 8. Once we get a cold spell with plenty of frosts and at least a risk of snow im happy enough. When snow looks inevitable like it did near the end of Nov 2010 as a very good example i felt like a big kid. Usually though when snow is in the forecast the anticipation is better then the event.

LOL, it seems I really am on my own aren't I! I know there are a few on here who don't particularly love cold and snow, but not to likes me. I'm am generally curious (and I don't mean this in a wind up-type way, at all :)) to know if there is anyone else on this forum who hates it as much as I do, and by "hate" I mean doesn't see anything nice about it at all, and just sees it as a massive pain and inconvenience etc.

You must be a bag of nerves come November 1st each year! Maybe you should move to deepest Cornwall.

I don't think I've ever met anyone who actually 'hates' snow. Sure it becomes an inconvenience if it lingers or turns icy, but most people I know look forward to snow. Generally rain and wind is the most inconvenient weather type amongst people I know, even more so than excessive humidity. At least with snow it's nice to look at and good for photography purposes. Out of interest, have you always been totally against snow or has living up north just put you off winter altogether?

i don't hate it but im not quite sure why people get to the point where they wouldn't move to a certain part of the country due to lack of snow possibilities..or drive hundreds miles to see a bit of snow...I enjoy cold weather and if it snows it snows to me its meaningless these days bit like when it rains..but I do enjoy the comedy of posters who eternally chase any flake of snow..like it was the holy grail..and how a post gets thousands of likes if snow is mentioned in the post somewhere.

If I could, I would, don't worry. It doesn't really take nerves, it's just expressing my opinion. If people think I'm a "wind-up" then tough, they just have to deal with it.

Well, when I was a little kid I loved it as you do when you're little. However my school/college was quite high up, making it a total nightmare to get to. Then we had months like December 2010 because it was just too much and March 2013 which put me off it altogether because it dragged on so long into the spring and I was just sick to death of cold weather by that point. What put me off it altogether though was also a day in March 2013 in which me and my mum were driving somewhere and we skidded on a bit of black ice/compacted snow and almost had a car accident at about 40 mph.

Ever since then I've just hated it, and to top it off, now I have my arthritic knee to contend with too. It's evil stuff.

I just have a general adversion to it, just like some can't stand any trace of heat and humidity. That's just the way I am. My experiences have caused me to hate snow, so I'd be very happy to move somewhere where the stuff doesn't fall.

I don't see how you have much of a problem as you do not get snow in Manchester, you should come a few miles east into the pennines and see how we have to cope especially the period 1977 to 1987 !

I absolutely love it,and I love the atmosphere on here in the build up through winter.

Last year was cack though :(  all that promise with the October porn influence! wasted!

However, if snow was 100% guaranteed  we wouldn't get so excited.

You disliked being able to get to college because of snow lol?! The latter is understandable however. I guess our difference of opinion is during the winter months - I lose interest in snow by late Feb into March, preferring signs of spring or less cold weather to materialise. Nothing worse than a mild wet Dec/Jan then when everyone is fed up of winter it gets colder.

If you fancy moving from up north, you're most welcome to move down to Bristol. Out of sod's law for you we'd probably get our snow frequency back up again. Snow events have become so erratic over the last decade or so - we either miss out altogether when most others get it, or we get a battleground stalling scenario and get more than everywhere else. Bit like thunderstorms I suppose.

Correct if it was the norm and snow was guaranteed every year all winter no one would care..let alone get excited.

I admit it my snow addiction is very much a ten, I am just a big kid

When it snow's, I love the build up, then watching it fall and settle.

There is something so calming when it snow's everywere quiet and calm, on the flip side I hate it when it turns slushy, total yuk, just hope this year it snows and sticks about for more than a few days,

though living in low lying Cheshire I doubt it.

Although i've given myself a 10, there is admittedly one thing I dislike about the snow, and that's the desire of rough youths to pelt snowballs at people and vehicles. This usually only happens when the snow first falls though and when its stuck around for a few days like in January and December 2010 they tend to lose interest after a while. Though I do remember on one of those occasions being on the bus when a gang of kids decided to volley a load of snowballs at it as it was going past. I also remember when the snow first came in January 2013 me and my mate walked past a bunch of teenagers standing outside KFC when they thought it would be hilarious to throw snowballs at us. My mate just made a mockery of their throwing abilities though and we carried on. Wouldn't want to throw one back though in case they saw this as an insult and tried to do something more violent. Get the feeling they do it as a form of abuse not as an innocent bit of fun. But besides from that I love snow. Just probably best to avoid gangs of teenagers and young adults when it does snow. So avoid rough areas when it does.

Back in December 2010 (I was 14 at the time), a couple of friends and I went to a nearby field to build a snow fort. The method was simple; roll up some huge snowballs, as tall as ourselves in fact, and align them to create a wall. Then fill in the gaps with snow to make a wall that was well over a metre thick. Utterly impenetrable that thing. No chav or idiot could take it down. A few minutes after leaving our epic fort for home, we noticed a gang of youths (probably my age) attempting to knock it down, so we watched. They basically tried to kick it down. But the fort was triumphant, and stood firm as they pathetically tried to damage it. And after a couple of minutes they accepted defeat and walked off! Just goes to show that they can't ruin everything.

Unfortunately in February 2012 an igloo that we built suffered a different fate :(. Thin walls were its downfall. It's a shame people feel the need to be destructive, throw snowballs at people walking by, etc.

I must have had a rough upbringing then. I once 'got the tawse' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tawse) for throwing snowballs at cars passing my old primary school. Not just me though, there was a long line of us that day.

I say it like that so that my bias doesn't spoil it for those who do like it. If I was in there saying stuff like "God I hate this, hope it turns to rain straight away, or this sucks I hope it doesn't stick blah blah blah", I'd come across as an even bigger misery than I do right now.

Well there is a neutral approach. Just report what is happening and give honest assessment without a hint of bias.

I wouldn't say I'm 'addicted' to snow but I do expect it every winter and my desire for it increases with every poor winter. By autumn 2014 I was very much needing a snow dump having not received any at all in winter 2013/2014 and living in Spain during 2012/2013 - so my previous dump of snow was on 05th February 2012 in Egham, which only lasted a day. I was just about satisfied with last winter seeing snow in Somerset on January 14th and again on the 29th. Would love a good fall of snow this year though, especially Christmas-New Year time as I've been given that week off.
