First sign of proper winter hitting the windowpanes, sleet with hail pellets in the shower crossing over the Peaks.

Oh good more rain

They do a frozen version as well apparently.

it comes in white only and is available throughout the world although they stopped supplying in North West England several years ago and unfortunately there are no plans to start again any time soon.

as for the clear wet version, that can be easily obtained throughout the region and is often available on a one fall, get ten falls free offer.

Looks like cold is on its way, whether it's wet or dry is still up for grabs but either way we should win with either snow on the ground or a much needed dry spell to allow the rivers to start to return to normal.

it looks like we may need to dig out the emergency chairs though.

Nothing wet or white here, only dry.

we have the altitude but the showers are crossing the region further south and I expect that by the time the rain band arrives in the early hours, warmer uppers will already be in place to scupper chances of snow.

plenty of opportunities left over the coming weeks though and with temperatures falling to where they should be, at least the possibility of wintry precipitation is there.

edit......we've just had a brief hail shower.

A few brief showers here but no snow, 3.2c so as usual just the wrong side of marginal.

Some hail in the last shower but very brief affair...The BBC weather for week ahead forecast was less than inspiring, the milder air will have to be dragged kicking and screaming from our shores, and it was only at the very end did they suggest the cold arctic air will eventually win out.

It will probably end up as a dry cold though, good for allowing flooding conditions to improve but another wasted opportunity for this snow starved country.

Well it's 1.5°C with sleety rain, possibly some snow on the hills.

Heavy wet snow falling here, struggling to stick on the warm ground but readily settling on the cars.

at least it's a start and an indication that it is actually winter.

Miserable wet day so far, cold rain with a temp around 5c... I see more rain warnings have been issued for the weekend...Not getting my hopes up for next week either!

Our attempt at early morning snow didn't last with a quick return to sleet followed by heavy rain but the tops above about 1200ft were white well into the afternoon.

the forecast gives the possibility of a bit of overnight snow again but I suspect that the colder air will be north Lancs northwards and we will wake to cold rain and little else.

current temperature is 3.9c.

This so called cold spell has as expected turned into another depressing farce...why people believe it baffles me, its the same every year.   The ecm is now touting an easterly which will also fail to transpire..fortunatly thats a good thing for the northwest......roll on spring.

I stopped getting excited by the chance of cold and snow several years ago and I refuse to believe in anything but downgrades until is see snow falling.

the problem is that whenever a spoiler exists, we will always end up with it.

anyway cold and snow is on its way, expect it around mid April and lasting well into late spring along with the type of northern blocking we would sell our gran for at the moment.

Certainly going to be a shock to the system next week, it will actually feel like winter. Chances of snow next week in our region.

Decent snowfall on the fells today, snowline around about 450 metres. Cold rain here with temps hovering around 5 degrees - all very average standard January affair.

Lots and lots and lots of time for snowfall this season.

Don't despair yet, the cold spell hasn't even got going yet... and to be fair we are in a favorable regional location (other than Scotland) next week to possible see some falling sleet/snow.  It still doesn't guarantee anything, but the cold is progged for next week, we just need to be lucky with the marginals and get the precipitation in.

It was raining here in Tenerife too. At least it is shortlived here. It was windy too last night.
