Highest gust so far here at the Unversity is 72mph at 9.20pm. Not much greater than the 71mph at 1pm, 70mph at 8AM and 69mph at 6AM.

So far well down on Gertrude but already  gusts have been high over a sustained period of time. Beginning to roar and whistle a bit in the last few minutes though.

Taybridge closed completely at 9.35 so must have exceeded 80mph there.

So many storms, they all merge in your memory.

True, except from the Hebridean Hurricane of 2005 and the January 2015 storms, I'll always remember those! Could this one go the same way? Hopefully not!

So when's it supposed to peak? Cos the noise is bad now...

For the Highlands, between 11pm - 4am or thereabouts.

Reporting in from Newcastle where it's gusty but nothing notable.

I feel a bit cheated, I don't get to join in during snow events but storms are something Crail does in style and I'm not at home to share.

My better half tells me it's noisy back home with the wind whistling down the chimney.

Really wild now. Just saw 2 flights on down leg approach for Glasgow..... glad its not me. I wonder how the pilot preps the passengers for landing?

Does seem a little calmer outside than it was earlier rather surprising

Be quite a sight for a passenger, crabbing into the wind, and seeing the runway going to the side of the window.

According to the MO winds have now peaked, report of 149mph gust recorded at Cairngorm.

* That report of 149mph gust for Cairngorm still to be confirmed.

** January 2009 a gust of 194mph was observed at Cairngorm.

All calm here now...couple of wild squalls but Gertrude was worse here if it has indeed peaked although that would seem early

The worst is yet to come for some of you nasty winds currently affecting western Isles where the gradient is quite sharp transferring eastwards through the night the highland capital right in the path I'd expect the peak around 3am, for Inverness.

As Henry pulls away he does leave a burn, for Aberdeenshire, Moray...peak circa 6am. A narrow path seeing sustained winds in low to mid 60's only 10mph or so away from a category 1 hurricane strength for Rosehearty for instance - gusts in the 80's this is a nasty proper storm.

Latest from up here in the Lomonds....

More of a westerly than Gertrude which means we get a bit more shelter. Like others have been saying, this just feels more prolonged. My wind run set a new record today of 802 miles. Just after it set a record for Gertrude of 792!

Stirling got it's highest wind run in nearly 8 years yesterday,  of 345.1 miles... and the gusts this morning at 0700 rivalled the strongest we had all day yesterday. (46mph)

Well Henry managed to rip the felt off our Tree house roof last night. Managed to do a temporary repair so will be a job for the summer.

This morning at 5:25 we were woken by the loudest thunder clap I have ever heard. I fully expected to open the curtains to see a downed aircraft in the field opposite, but no. Another flash and instant thunder confirmed what it was.

After educating my kids last night when Stirling got those nacreous clouds, I just got a text from my daughter with a picture of some more in Stirling just now, saying she was telling her friends about them on the way to school.

I wonder if it's a sign of changes in the stratosphere that we are seeing them and soon we shall experience a proper late winter.....straw clutching here....interesting they only form in extremely cold stratospheric temperatures...does this mean the strat is still not warming lol...no science here :sorry:
