Ridge to build from California up to the N. Pole and into Greenland. This will open the arctic gates for brutal cold

Not much Neiller I'm afraid.  The main troughing is over Scotland.

That looks similar to last Winter with a very West based -NAO.  Donegal and Derry did very well if I recall with snowey South Westerlies originating from central Canada.

Yea it will be brutally cold in Canada and the states 850 Temp below if we get a westerly surely we should tap into some of there extreme cold air i know it will be modified from the Atlantic but should be cold enough for snow i hope.

You could well do...Brutally cold NE USA and Canada combined with a cold western Atlantic Ocean, with air then traversing warmish water west of the UK, a westerly wind could give you some stonking thundery wintry showers??

Then again, I could be talking bullocks!:D

Yeah 1 foot in January as hard as it is to believe. I believe we had snow from a similar set up in early March as well. Best two snowfalls for my location last year

It was almost too easy...:drunk-emoji:

I spent twenty years in the NW Highlands and, believe you me, westerlies/south-westerlies produced some spectacular snowstorms, so long as the air was cold enough; I'm guessing that northern and western Ireland can reap similar rewards?:D

Literally the heaviest snow I have ever seen just passed over.  If it could continue like that for a few hours it would be great.
