Nice wee covering here in parts of Northern Ireland and been snowing on and off so far this morn. U may get lucky yet. Forecast had northern areas of NI getting most of snow when in actual fact it looks like southern areas of NI got worse hit. So just shows how hard it is too forecast the white stuff in such a short time frame.

Well that's some consolation, I suppose. ps I may be wrong but I think the Flintshire Hills, around Halkyn, and Holywell (Wales) may have a covering of snow, as a shower has just gone through there, and through the cloudy misty glare, a tinge of white, perhaps?

Latest BBC weather a 'wintry mix'.

I hate it when they do that. Tell us you forecast snow and it didn't materialise - don't call it a 'wintry mix' as if that was what you always forecast.

I give up now. This winter has to be one of the worst ones. Roll on Spring.

Yes its interesting , we do seem to indeed need the uppers to be -10 to guarantee snow, i know Kevin disputes the even larger teapot theory but it does seem to have been a lot milder esp in winter since the 80's, yes there have been exceptions. I wonder if this some sort of warm cycle and it will flip back to cold in the future.

What I dispute is the absoluteness of the theory. Northerly winter blocking is extinct, you can't get a month below 3C anymore etc. Weather patterns are not living organisms. That is what I take issue with.

Exactly right - they never admit any wrong forecast (well, very rarely), yet we pay them the same - the excuse is always the same "oh well, the weather has the last word"! :)

I had briefly my fun and games this morning with some heavy snow even right here by the coast and at sea level, it did turn more sleety on the back edge though as it eased off. Not sure if it started as rain initially as I was asleep at the time but whilst its only delivered a dusting on favoured surfaces, it was certainly more than I expected here.

It is good to see snow falling here and sticking to the ground at 50 metres above sea level. :D
