A couple of attempts to cross the channel atm towards SE England.  Full high cloud atm too. Earlier was completely clear sky.

Its looking good so far with some storms already broken out. Feels very warm and humid in london right now with hazy sunshine (although I am inside so it probably feels more humid inside than it actually is). Keeping my fingers crossed we get something in bexley this evening (border of london and kent) but at the same time trying not to build up too much hope incase it doesn't happen.

Very oppressive feel when I came out the air conned supermarket recently, make out a lot of Ac cas towers shooting up through the haze. Some heavy showers popping on radar now to to S, SW and NW of London, early initiation for a change

Not very hopeful at all for my home town today, however things are looking very promising for the SE later on tonight, just wish I had an excuse to drive down there haha, good luck too all chasing and anyone wishing a storm will come to them, could be some pretty lively convection today.

Yep just had a closer look at the forecast seems to be a mainly sotheast affair  however there is  possibilities further west wales into part of the far west midlands  so i wouldnt rule staffordshire out just yet

Cells starting to develop in East Wales now along the line of the trough, it is this that I would expect to start spreading gradually into the Midlands this afternoon.

Visiting family in Sunderland at the moment, just watched a big CB going up to the west.  Looking active over western County Durham now.

Quick question anyone - I keep hearing the trough down south moving east etc if the trough is causing the storms to develop down there what's causing them to develop further north?  Sorry if this sounds thick!  Aslo if the storms down south move east with the trough what direction will they head in the north?

The storm to the west of me in the north Pennines has really exploded now...

Lifting caused by the hills, called orographic lifting.

Thinks its probably down to hills and higher ground which is giving it a hand in starting there is a term but cannot name it as this time and probably other factors as well

Sorry if I'm being thick here but I see people refer to stuff as CB. What is this in weather speak? Is this short for cumulonimbus?

Well so far so good - at work near Watford and looking to finish at 1:30 if I'm lucky and then it's not far to the M1 / M40 junctions dependant on where I need to go (if anywhere). Have plenty of work to do on my laptop so the plan is to find somewhere open to sit and wait for some action.

I'm open to suggestions for where to go to get the best vantage - ideally I'd like to be out of any heavy rain / hail cores but near enough for the lights and sounds.

I know no-one can predict where storms will be but any well-educated guesses are welcome!

A CB is an abbreviation for cumulonimbus (thunder cloud).

Same, I think most of it must be quite elevated. Although the two cells really aren't far away I haven't hear much yet.

Moving very slowly east, looks like we're possibly in for some later afternoon/evening action up here!

Not expecting much tbh.

Too much high cloud.

But any thunder is better than no thunder at all.
