I think I've just heard a rumble here and Sky box getting some interference! Also very dark and grey!

What's everyone's thoughts on the weather for next week, seeming ok-is

H x

Has anyone been brave enough to call next week yet? Longest day soon and then the days will shorten.:cray:

Hi WG...I haven't been able to get a Tesco Mobile signal here since before last weekend. I'm assuming that the glut of thunderstorms is to blame? Not that Beccles is renowned for its mobile-phone connections!:D

Here are photos of the thunderstorm that went up over Bracknell/Ascot yesterday I was on break and it was a real treat to watch

This is over the space of 30 mins :

The lightning was pretty cool of it few CG and a couple of cloud to cloud

As it pulled south there was a lot of rotation within it and I really did try to drop something as a couple of funnels albeit small formed.. Unfortunately by this point we were running to work so couldn't get any pics :(

The timing could not have been better for me what a day!

I'm meant to be seeing in the solstice on a beach in Suffolk...but it's looking like it will be cloudy/possibly rainy Monday morning.

Not doubt the sun will come out and it will be glorious the minute we put the bags in the car to come home on Wednesday - so that's the forecast - it will be dull while I'm on holiday, then sunny after :wallbash::D

What is required to kick these storms off in the south today then?

Am on the south coast, it doesn't feel stormy and currently thick cloud all round.

Here we go. Quite a few storms breaking out already. Slightly earlier than the high res models have been suggesting, but exactly in the forecast zone:

Something must be on its way as my TV signal keeps disappearing. Lovely and sunny here at the moment, shame it was'nt when I went to town earlier and got drenched.

Thunderstorm overhead here in St Leonards-on-Sea, heavy rain for a while but eased off quite quickly.

Interesting that the instability seems to be along the SE-facing coastal strip, Malcolm.

From what I can see it's being caused by a small secondary area of Low Pressure in the Dover Straits that is bringing an easterly air flow to the SE-facing coastal strip. This air flow is bumping into the generally northerly flow and causing an uplift along the line of convergence (see the wind flow chart below). The chart showing the Vertical Velocity at 700 hPa confirms there is uplift along the convergence line.

Some sun breaking through here with the temperature up to a scorching 19C lol....looks like areas E and S of London seeing the heavy showers/storms today.

Cheers Malcolm, I haven't been checking the data much of recent, so I was unaware of the setup.
