But it's named Storm Eleanor as it has a localised circulation.

Yes and I was under the impression they only name a low when they have issued Amber warnings for it. Like referees we need some consistency here.

Storm was named by met Eireann as an orange warning has been issued in Ireland, MetO and met Eireann work together

It does seem however that MetO seem more apprehensive to issuing higher warnings here

Wow has anyone looked at the CAPE and LI for the early hours?! I’ve got 650J/kG and -3! Doesn’t get much better than that on a regular PM showery summer‘s day. Not updated to the 12Z yet though.

The 961mb below greenland is more of a storm depression. This morning the shortwave rhats evident in this image was over IOM.

That was the one I looked at this morning ,still suffering New Years booze ,lol

I had just finished work had quick look and was just shortwave depression with no central circulation. Its a low now but wouldnt be named if not for the wind impact. I think they name storms too easily for statistical purposes

Think it ties in with the potential squal  line thunder lightning and violent gusts as upper winds are forced down

That’s this evening though, 300 CAPE  showing for that as well. I think the early hours is ocean effect post frontal convection.
