On a serious note, New Brighton promenade is due to close later for fear of flooding.

Typical, amber upgrade that we don't want!

Surprised to see an amber warning for 80-90mph along the coast, the wind doesn't look that strong looking at the models?

Stunning run from the ECM tonight.

Trouble is, it produced one a few years ago and it failed to materialise...

Fingers crossed this time it's got it correct..

  • I think the Metoffice have made a fairly glaring mistake not including coastal areas of southern Northwest England in the amber warning. Some of the tightest isobars are over those parts, and there no absolute way to know the impact of squalls or where they will hit. By not including places like Crosby and Liverpool they open themselves up for criticism as the worst effects will be felt along the coast, not inland... not to forget with high tides forecast, even the southern areas of the region will potentially have coastal property damage.

It's because normally our more traditional storms have their strongest winds along the southwestern flank, and the oomph is usually lost to the Welsh Mountains at it's strongest stage, but these wind are coming directly off the Irish sea at their strongest.

Could be one of those storms that whips through very quickly with the strongest winds on its flank rather than on the advancing front - the wind isn't picking up much here so far, despite the start of the amber warning period. I suspect coastal parts will be most affected, hoping not too much in the way of damage.

agreed. I can’t Think of any reason why they have done this. They always seem to miss us out in this situation, it’s like we don’t exist.
