I was going to mention this. Noticed it was down to 7.2°C, average I think was 7.5°C. Still not convinced, don’t think the 850s are cold enough, but anything can happen I suppose with prolonged precipitation so let’s wait and see.

Yes sods law the uppers were better in Dec but Irish Sea was warmer, now the uppers aren't quite as good (yet) but the Irish Sea colder. Lol

I remeber that, thundersnow at its best.

All rain and hail for me then and even missed all the lightning. Not happy.  Don’t know which date that was exactly but 90%  of all North-westerlies end up like that here anyway so don’t need to know.

I trudged through Hadfield/padfield in the snow as I was renovating a house at the time and walking up a slippy post street in six inches was a struggle with wallpaper in hand.... but it was the huge flakes that were mesmerising huge clumps of fluffy snow that never seemed like it was going to end....

was it this design

Meanwhile it’s currently 2.3°C here which is colder than forecast, although not surprising given the light and mostly off-shore wind.

Possibly a better chance of seeing some wintry showers early next week in my locality than so far this winter, if the marginal balance between beefy convection and decent uppers play ball together.  Still not getting too carried away, but always better than any slider which doesn't get here, easterly that dies a death the other side of the Pennines, or a northerly that wishbones it's way around our region..... could be cold rain/slush mix though and that would be filthy.

Blimey, you're getting in among the frosts this winter compared to normal winters?!

Well actually the 1981-2010 average is 23.2 air frosts each  winter so been running well below average for a few years now compared to that. I am running ahead of the last few years this year though. Last year was just 8 total and the year before was 7 total(all in Jan and Feb). I am in somewhat of a frost hollow which is why that average is surprisingly high for my coastal location.

** sst watch.

Crosby is down to 6.7°C today which is 0.5°C lower than this time yesterday. Running 0.9°C below the long-term average.

Anyone know when the last time they were this far below average was? It could make all the difference next week.
