Didn't really bring much here with just a max gust of 40mph.

Quite a few twigs and leaves on the ground mind you.

Storm Agnes turned out to be just another ordinary low pressure system round here too. Yes, trees were shaking wildly at times but my own weather station never got beyond 39 mph, considered it registered 47 mph on Monday. Even the (heavier) rain was comparatively short lived and did return just 11 mm in 24 hours, quite ordinary really for the time of year. Top gust were 84 mph at Capel Curig and 68 mph at Aberdaron, again nothing that I haven't seen multiple times before. Guess Agnes had reached the peak of it's development early on Wednesday and already filled in on the way past?! No complaints from me though as the one thing i can do without is storms.

What a soggy end to September that was , 42 mm of rain at Lake Vyrnwy and 19 mm in my own back garden, racking up 214 mm here for the whole month. Yet, at the same time the weirdly warm theme continues, even into next weekend which to me looks like a repeat of the one just gone. All this warm moist air can bring from the SW is could and with it outbreaks of rain/drizzle, especially so on the windward side of the mountains. Further east the benefits may well be felt (and enjoyed) at times but here I would expect slugs and other moisture loving creatures having a fun time in my garden.😉🪱🐛

Approaching seven hours of non-stop moderate rainfall here which is getting boring.  Radar says it should ease up after about 2:00pm but it’s been a very wet day so far…..

At least it has dried up here now with diffuse sunshine peaking through now and then. MetO output seems to be  pretty optimistic for the weekend. We'll have to wait and see where the ever rolling dice end up. SW'ly 🙁S/SE'ly😃

No heatwave here today - not really looking like an Indian Summer either - but pleasantly warm and sunny at times, with no rain and a light breeze.  Very acceptable for early October but I’m betting we will have to pay for it later in the month…..💨💨💦💦

Written earlier  in the day and misposted to the wettest day Wales thread….☹️

Cloudy and mild day.  Currently  21c, but feeling a wee cooler under the cloud.  Rather lovely day for gentle pootering, baking bread while listening to Mozart Flute concertos.  Watching  the bees and butterflies on the asters and sedums and deadheading/weeding garden.    What’s not to like.😀

Sounds good to me. I am hoping that it will be dry enough to mow the “lawn”tomorrow. The bees seem to have retired for the autumn, so I won’t be depriving them of food from the remaining clover, etc.

My delivery of mixed winter bedding turned out to be of two different varieties of violas, nothing like the illustration on the website, and with a substantial number of the plug plants out of their trays and squashed. I hear the garden centre at Ystradgynlais calling.

I must admit that after an overcast morning with low cloud and strong winds I didn't expect the afternoon to turn so bright with hazy sunshine at times. The max temp of 17 C is just about what the MetO output had forecast, feeling rather pleasant, especially as the winds eased too. One can only feel sorry for the Scots with that enormous rain up there, 71mm at Glasgow in the 24 hours to 18 UTC! But then, they were rather left out when southern and central Britain were plagued by low after low after low for weeks on end which shows that everything evens out again eventually. Might that then also apply to the current and recent abnormally high temperatures turning into a cracking cold spell as we head towards winter, I wonder???🤔

lovely sunshine!  BUT house completely infested with ladybugs on the outside walls.  All windows and doors shut but they still manage to get in!  Outside, amidst the ladybirds  whizzing about are clouds of tiny little black fly things which makes sitting outside deeply unpleasant.

Yes, lovely late 'summer' day here as well - got three loads of washing done which dried in no time in the sunshine and with the help of a brisk warm breeze at times, just like in, you know, summer!! Here it's just flies that seem to have considerably increased in numbers again, have to keep uneaten cat food under cover to save it from being spoiled. Talking of flying things, watching a couple of red admirals gave me great joy this morning.

What an atrocious outlook for Friday, suggesting in excess of 100 mm over the highest tops in Eryri and an utterly miserable day for all mortals living below! The rain gauges at Cwm Dyli, Capel Curig etc will be working overtime!!😉🙁🌧️🌧️🌧️

Pretty wet outlook for tomorrow, might even outdo Friday's rain in places.

Thereafter I'd better get thicker socks and jumpers out with nighttime temperatures expected to go down into low single figures to start the new week. Brrrrhh!!!

But light winds and sunny spells under high pressure will make up for it by day!! Good time for a decent hill walk!! 🚶‍♂️🥾

It’s looking like a solid 8 to 10 hours of steady rain for most of Wales starting at about 8pm tonight which will deliver 40-50mm widely across the country with some heavier bursts locally.   Here’s the UKMO chart for rainfall accumulation until midnight Friday….

IMG_1161.thumb.png.60d8c701f823238db6a7e140a9f1ab43.png

I’m not convinced this outlook merits a MetO warning but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt - better to be forewarned than ignorant!

This chart mirrors the 24 hour totals to 6 UTC pretty well with the highest to the south of Eryri: 38.2 mm at Milford Haven and 37.2 for Milford Haven and 32.2 at Mumbles. By contrast, Capel Curig managed just 12 mm in the same period while my own rain gauge produced 16.5 mm. Looks like the end is nigh at least up here with the MetO output showing just 20 % chance of rain by 12 UTC and sunny spells by mid afternoon, so doggies can wait a little while longer before heading out.

61.6 mm here, and the sun is just peeking through, so it’s time to move a few plants into their winter shelter before the weekend’s potential frosts.

My brother’s temporary fix on the land drain appears to have worked, as the kitchen floor is - thankfully - dry.

Wow, that's some total, and for once it's not up here! Glad to hear your kitchen remained dry!!

27.2mm this morning, followed by a further 10.4mm through the rest of the morning and afternoon.

So ended up with a rain total of 37.6mm from this event which is quite rare for here. Usually at the worst of times we end up with maxes in the 20's.

A much better start to the day here, with scattered cloud and large areas of open sky which should bring prolonged sunny spells today.  However, as I write this a rogue cloud has just started a light shower right above me - just to prove that Mother Nature always has the last word!

What a glorious day! The neighbour and I went for a late-afternoon drive on the mountain road (aka the Top Gear road). It’s very autumnal up there, but there is still enough to eat for the sheep, so they were wandering over the road menacing the traffic.

There were two colourful sun-dogs in the milky sky about half an hour before sunset, which made it look very atmospheric. Pity about the new 40mph speed limit and the average speed cameras, with their wind  turbines and outsize solar panels. The numerous accidents up there are usually from youngsters losing control while doing doughnuts, notfrom people going too fast.

Well, MetOficce have been busy issuing yellow warnings of rain, one of which running from Wednesday 21 UTC to Saturday 6 UTC, luckily not for Wales - at least not yet as details as to affected areas can easily and quickly change. Also got our second named storm Babet, presumably due to the sheer duration as fronts run against the higher Scandi pressure and align themselves parallel to the tightly packed isobars and grind to a halt over eastern Britain.  So, make the most of today, folks and enjoy the hazy sunshine while it lasts!!

Storm Babet will bring impactful rain across parts of the UK.

It’s a rare let-off for south west Wales as we seem to have dodged the worst of both the wind and rain from Babet.  We had some torrential showers earlier but relatively short-lived and since then it’s been a fairly quiet and dry evening.  As things stand it might be that Pembrokeshire will be one of the driest areas throughout the UK over the next few days which is a sentence I never thought I’d be able to write!

After a fairly muggy on off light rain day yesterday, rain is parked over us for the day and we have our  yellow warning  label thing at meto.  Fortunately no dogs to walk today, so can stare out of the window dolefully…..
