That’s interesting!  I think you are just the other side of town to me and I only managed -4.7c as the overnight low.  You must be in a frost pocket!

Tomorrow looks like there is a chance of some patchy snow first thing but the problem is it will even turn to rain or sleet tomorrow with temps of 3-4c by the afternoon associate with warmer air from the west so not likely to be decent snowfall.

Can't wait for this breakdown to be over now. Some nice frosts granted. An HR of frozen rain snow on Sunday is a bind to go through tbh.

Onto Xmas and beyond.

Temps currently -3

Current garden temp is -4.1c, think that’s the lowest daylight temp I’ve actually seen on the display.  However, overnight low is still only reading -5. Think my thermometer gets stuck at 5 and won’t record anything lower as can’t believe it’s only one degree difference from the clearest overnight skies to now 🤔🤔🤔

Staxton recorded -5.5c overnight low with -4.1c current temp.

Burton recorded -6.2c low with -5.6c current temp.

🌬Just glad there’s no wind to speak of or any of those temps would be unpleasant to walk in. Would probably feel more like the -8.5c of the car gauge at Rudston!

Bit of a hollow here in Ardsley. Half way up hill too which helps.

Ah righto!  I’m over at Redbrook.

Temps actually dropped after I’d responded to you, so actually got down to -5.4c at 8.25!

It's been interesting to hear all your temp readings, such variations across the region. Of course where people are and hight as mentioned affects it as cold air sinks into the dips.

Myself last night was all over the place. Went up to +0.2 in the early hours and then coldest was -3.5 once day broke.

I am top of a hill though so will never be the coldest.

According to our Rainfall radar we have a snow shower headed our way?

I can see the clouds carrying it out to my west & it looks to be over Ransbottom a.t.m.?

That'll be pretty! (Won't please the Mrs as she's just gone out in the car!!!)

The hardened snow is no fun to walk on! On the thicker stuff in the fields there’s a second delay when you put your foot down & then crunch through the ice crust…..it’s like falling through ice with every step!

Certainly no snow clouds on the horizon today…..

A white Christmas is looking a possibility on the latest ECMWF run:

All subject to change of course, but with a pretty cold Arctic air mass pushing south, there would almost certainly be snow on the northern flank of the frontal boundary between the two air masses.

what a disappointing spell of severe cold weather in hull if you wanted snow.first day it set in last week, the evening produced some heavy showers from the north ,but all of rain, the next week was very cold and frosty, with not a snowflake in sight.finally yesterday we got a shower or 2 in the afternoon, but yet again it was rain.i hear they got a slight dusting in east hull, but in west hull nothing.

Been down to North Lincs today, virtually nothing! In fact from Driffield onwards there’s hardly any ground snow left & as you say @MIKE LEVITTnothing on the west side of Hull. Although we’ve had quite a thaw on my return home it’s still winter wonderland up on the hills as far as the eye can see.

Sorry, I just can’t help myself….📸

Out of this cold spell which has been completely snowless so far for me, I reckon from now until 9am tomorrows is greatest chance of snow (forgetting about sunday, doesn't interest me.)

Showers are sprouting up just to the west and could affect any of us in west yorkshire, western parts of north and south yorkshire.

With temperatures around -1c overnight any decent streamer, beefy snow shower could deposit good totals very quickly. I've seen it so many times, 6" falls of snow in places from a sneaky band of snow showers from the west completely un-forecast, with no warnings!

Here's my risk of snow tonight.

Red area- That band over southern scotland is slowly drifting south with persistent snow/ heavy showers piling in from the west. This should affect the red area over night.

200m+ 5-15cm

100m+ 3-10cm

<100m 2-7cm

This band may end up a little further south though, enhancing the orange areas risk of snowfall. Will have to keep an eye on the radar.

Orange area - Sleet and snow showers becoming more widespread overnight, where showers align and streamers set up locally a few suprise snowfalls.

200m+ 3-10cm

100m+ 2-7cm

<100m  dusting - 5cm

Some places may escape the showers and remain dry. Also below 50m there may be melting due to slightly warmer parcels of air affecting snow cover.

Let's see how my first snow forecast for a while fairs? 🤭😂

Great start to the day. After recording the mac temp you've got to shake it down and of course it slipped out of my hand went flying I heard it land somewhere but can I see it.

It's probably broken even if I do find it.

Shower activity to the NW picking up now. Could be an interesting morning for some.

Not expecting anything in Kippax but where I work in Ilkley certainly a risk of snow.

Does the wind turn westerly though?

No I believe they are to remain the same, maybe strengthening a tad.

This is why only western parts of our region really at risk.

The way that streamer set up just north of Carlisle is a thing of beauty.

Any part of our region, inland a bit with bit of altitude, gets one of those overnight 3 or 4 inch ain't out the question.
