South Yorkshire sweet spot! I said yesterday this would be the middle ground solution!

Foot of snow for peaks and Sheffield, Barnsley area easy 20cm+

Doesn't start melting until Sunday!

Just been down to the end of the garden to check temp…-5c current recording.

HOWEVER, I’ve just seen a UFO!! Disregard the green/blue reflection of the moon on the camera lens….watch the small orange object. It looked like a flame, like one of those lit lanterns but it moved much faster than a lantern would be ‘floating’. Any ideas? Could it be a meterorite??

Interesting !  It would be silent I guess or you would have known it was an aircraft.
Did it speed up at one point ?
I saw something similar a few years back.  One light came along horizontal (thought it was the ISS at first) then we spotted another
rise up vertically .. we watched amazed as they met together .. and then they zoomed off away in different directions at
the most incredible speeds.  Never been able to work out what we had witnessed. It happened on the night my father in law
died.  So odd.
Thanks for the video.  🙂

It’s a spy balloon 🎈 from the south model thread trying to send waves so the system stays south 😆

Some may get one or two beefy showers moving in off the N

Sea, animated met office radar shows this quite well for East Yorks, N n E Lincs moving through into N n W Yorks late morning rime.

Just got caught in a heavy one through Preston/Bilton and it was snow flakes/grains. Its odd as they're moving ENE but the wind is currently SW!

Well metO got me down for 14 hours of heavy snow on their automated forecast thurs night into friday. I will take that!

Didn't want more cold but if its actually going to fetch some laying snow then bring it on.

Please close the schools, i want a long weekend with the kids, in some snow! 🙏

Barnsley could end up with 20cm+ at this rate!

I agree, my first thought would be one of those (should be illegal) tealight balloons/lanterns. Might travel fast in the wind, though there was no wind at ground level last night, the temperature difference between the burning candle and the air temperature could propel it faster?  Certainly the candles would burn longer, and in cold would ‘lift higher’

Yes, I seem to be in our ‘local frost pocket 😞 ). -7.1° last night, so not as cold as I feared it would get down to. Currently -4.2°

The UKV and other hi-res models show today's rain/sleet/snow mix heading into the south of the county. I think some will be at risk of snow from the bigger showers coming inland from the North Sea, too. There is quite a lot going on, it must be said!

It will be interesting to see updates to the warning areas today, assuming there will be.
