Hope you are feeling much better soon Scott.

I’ve been on this forum since 2007 and I have to say your analysis and explanations in layman terms has improved my knowledge this year to a greater extent than at any time before.

So, rest up and take it easy, we are going to need your expertise analysis in the coming weeks!

Here is to seeing some exceptional cold and snowfall in our area in January and February!

Bad by looks of mod thread

it could be a set up with no doubt, snowing already and the mod thread would be throwing the toys out of the pram and predicting a warm spell.

too much FI watching addles the brain

GFS 12z good in the short-term with uppers of -8c to -9c and even on occasion nudging -10c between Monday and Wednesday. Dewpoint forecast is marginal for tomorrow (ie around 0c) so for areas nearer the coast I’d say Monday night into Tuesday and again Tuesday into Wednesday probably the best time.

GFS modelling a streamer for early Tuesday morning. Some of the charts below from that time... I’ll have a look at the high res models when I get a chance. And get well soon, @Scott Ingham

Yes the short term does appear to have upgraded with uppers firmly in the -8/-9 category, whether that'll be enough for costal areas I'm not too sure.

In the mid term the synoptics aren't looking favourable so I would definitely make the most of the next few days.

I'm hopeful we'll see a frontal snowfall event at some point. Leeds always does well from those scenarios, I tend to favour them from showery flows as your guranteed a good dumping of snow.

I tell you what I'm confident in saying some parts of our region are going to get clobbered sometime over the next few days! Tuesday into wednesday morning clearly the greatest risk.

All the precipitation charts are hinting at streamers, where these set up when the temperature is just cold enough anywhere could see 5-10cm fall in just a few hours you mark my words! And we even have those lovely twig things appearing on the bracknel fax charts  I call them BOOM STICKS! Will be a classic case of radar watching, obviously outside these zones there will be utter misery, my advice would be to have petrol in your car, if you have no car download the app for UBER!

I move away from the longer term now as I believe the UKMO and ECM have sussed it out (unless 12z ecm can pull a rabit out the hat.) All energy now on the next few days potential then the attack from the north west this weekend.

Just watched BBC week ahead forecast that's just come out and they're saying there's lots of uncertainty towards next weekend.

Very interesting model and forecast watching in the days ahead, whichever way it goes I can't see any prolonged Atlantic influence.

With the ssw event coming I think we might see the models struggling more than they usually do.

High res models are a bit mixed regarding rain/sleet/snow chances over the next few days. Some of them picking out potential streamers too - eg HARMONIE below. Others not doing so and showing rain showers for anywhere east of the A1. I think dewpoints are probably the limiting factor as uppers seem great - would appreciate someone more knowledgable letting me know if I’m right?!?

PS - HARMONIE really does love forecasting graupel (the orange lines)

Not enough showers around this evening for anything of interest . Tomorrow maybe interesting if we get a streamer then it's looking for bonus snow events before we start tapping milder conditions from the Atlantic late this coming weekend. Mabe some some more widespread snow Friday night.

If it really is snowing in Hull, surely everywhere will be snow!?
