just had a heavy sleet shower which is a good sign for later tonight ( given that it is 4 c with a dewpoint of 3 c now at 2 30 pm ) and my elevation is only 50 m asl

Uppers are now projected as low as -10 or even -11 between 3am and 9am tomorrow morning for here according to the latest 6z GFS ensembles so definitely an upgrade there.

Maybe this is overriding the marginal dew points.

Also Friday looks potentially like being a very cold day if you base the forecast purely on uppers with -10 possible even around midday.

Obviously a relaxation of temperatures after that but possibly some snowy surprises before the week is out?

Showers are definitely pepping up now.  The North Sea is coming alive.

Wet or white is the big question though.

Well according to Hugos tweet and the Meto the snow is for the downs and the NE but looks sparce inbetween.

Even the snow for later this week now down played as fizzling then High pressure moving in with milder air over the top.

Great........not

I still think the overnight periods today into tomorrow and Tuesday into Wednesday are the most promising times for any snow to lower levels. T850s are good for snow but dewpoints are too high. As they drop overnight with some added heavier bursts of precipitation we could see some snow to lower levels but I doubt there’ll be much settling or lasting long unfortunately.

Looks like later in the week we are in line for more snowfall, this time from the north

Yes we are looking at frontal snow in a relatively cold airmass if things go to plan

Anyone know why the dew points are so high this time?

I thought we always look for easterlies because they are better for snow, requiring less low 850s and normally have low Dews.

Annoying if we're going to be scuppered this time!

Hang fire GFS just updating and the snow streamer  is wavering about from ne to west Yorks.Still showing decent dump later in week.

I will post GIF soon

This easterly is ultimately sourced from the Mediterranean not siberia so we aren't tapping into those really cold -13 uppers that you would get with a potent easterly.

According to accu weather radar, showers beefing up and streamers establishing from 6pm tonight, let's see!

I have noticed from similar set-ups in the past, once the sun set's that's when the convergence seem to really get going from an easterly..

(EDIT - pics not showing for some reason)

Must be issue with radar everything coming off North Sea just turned from rain to sleet / snow

What radar are you using? Precip type is based on model data rather than the radar itself. That’s why the other day all the stuff over West Yorks showed as rain/sleet when it was snowing.

More showers coming on shore over the last hour or so hoping they start changing from blue to green to full on pink on the net weather radar

Thursday night and Friday now looking very interesting might have some to actually measure in the morning. As for the dew points is it because the north sea is warmer than normal?
