Take a look at this

My daughter and her boyfriend live in Sowerby Bridge but he works up above Halifax.

his work sent everyone home at 10am and after nearly 2 hours driving less than 2 miles he abandoned his car and walked home.

He managed to get it back later but it must have been bad at the time.

Sounds like a happy dream

No doubt the other side of the Pennines will do well out of it though.

i don’t begrudge them any of it though, just wish we could be in on the action once in a while

Didnt you get 2" today?

Yeah I shouldn’t be greedy and my 2 inches was perfectly formed but 2 inches at 1000ft is a bit of a let down.

If you monitor the posters who give off negative vibes, their locations say it all.

I feel bad enough when i post pics and videos in this thread... I do have a conscience.

Looking forward to seeing the snowy fells again tomorrow. We had a good 2 weeks when they were mostly in view every day, all resplendent white. On Sunday a major thaw happened and all snow was stripped clean Monday, leaving a green brown scene on Tuesday almost as if someone wiped the slate clean. A similar scenario may occur again Sunday and Monday with a milder feed, then back to white...

Liking the long term suggestion of NW and W airflow a very unstable polar one quite similar to late Dec but the depth of cold will be stronger this time.

I shouldn't really grumble at all considering we've had a few coverings of snow already this Winter but it would be nice to have a significant fall, around 15cm would do me. Best we've had so far is 5cm at the end of December. Still plenty of time yet though.

The potential NW'ly does not look cold enough for much wintriness apart from high ground and even then it probably has to be pretty high up.

Unless uppers are at least - 8 or below then it won't be that interesting on a snow POV.

I'm east of pennines in west yorks. Couple " of snow here. Rock hard ice everywhere and freezing fog. Proper winter wonderland. Hope you guys join in later next week.

Hard frost here this morning. Much nicer for the morning walk than the past couple of mornings which have been vile and wet. Charts above looking good for end of next week. Forgot the Easterlies, these are the scenarios that usually deliver best for many parts of the region with showers barrelling in off the Irish Sea.

If current GFS 0 Z verifies we will be having a lot of fun from next Friday. DPs well below 0 from then onwards.

My prediction for tomorrow is:

On high ground above 100 m NE of Bury, 1–2 hours of ice pellets followed by rain.
on high ground above 150 m NE of Bacup, 1–2 hours snow followed by 1 hours ice pellets followed by rain.

In view of yesterday's rain, I was a bit surprised that the roads and pavements were not at all icy at 7am this morning. A dry morning here in S Cheshire, but like other mornings recently, the mist has rolled in since dawn and no sign of the sun.

Manchester / Liverpool both had 20-21 mm of rain yesterday, with St Bee's Head the wettest place in the UK with 37mm.
