For the first time in my life I’m looking at freezing cold easterly model output and thinking ‘Bring back the Atlantic!’ because that brought more snow here than the charts are showing for this easterly

it’s not just snowfall I go for, I love extremes in temps

Being serious though folks, what sort of temps we looking at next week.

People in the mod thread keep going on about the BFTE in 2018, however for us, I still say 2010 was far more severe. Never forget arriving at Manchester Airport one morning and it showing -15c at 7am.

Would class this being modeled as a beast, -10 and lower uppers for at least 3 days, 7-9 Feb, perhaps my location normally does well, as no high ground to my East

Anything beats mild winter weather.

I’d have expected colder day time maximums from the GFS raw data to be honest.

What made 2018 worse, was Storm Emma. It got as Far as Brum and stopped. . If we are going get the same, the least it can do is give us a front that gets as far as Cheshire lol

Really hard to get a front that comes far north enough into the cold air without just blasting through and bringing in milder air. December 2017 was the best one I’ve seen here but even then the main bulk of the snow was further south.

So close to a good snow event in Stoke today. Damn mild air aloft rushed in a bit too quickly. *Weeps*.

0’C and pouring with rain.

Hmm. Which region in particular might benefit from battleground snow events across the heart of the U.K., I wonder

Just viewed the GFS 0z though. Looks absolutely rubbish.

I'm a bit worried about two things really.

1. America's east coast has gone into the freezer, and that usually fires up the jet stream and blows all the systems' through the UK rapidly.

2. The GFS is wobbling, and has flipped from severe cold to mild in the late reliable and FI.

I fear this'll be another watered down spell, and that like Saturday, we'll end up with sleet before the Atlantic powers through.

I really hope I'm wrong

Hopefully it’s just overdoing the northward shift of low pressure to the south. Would still favour a cold easterly at this stage. A cold easterly and that low to the south having some influence wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for our region though!

Until we're down to 48 hours or less, then not taking anything granted with regards to an easterly. GFS has certainly caused some doubt today.
